The former Corner Store, a convenience market at 901 Williamson Street that was better known for selling subs, Mexican food and home-made takeout Thai curries, is being prepped to become Vasilis' Take Five: Vittles & Vices. Take Five will be serving cocktails and "Greek Fusion Comfort Food," according to the sign in the window.

The alcohol license approved by the ALRC specifies no live entertainment, no sidewalk cafe, no alcohol service when there is also not food service, a business balance of 80% food service to 20% alcohol (more vittles than vices), and a closing time of no later than 11 p.m.

Owner Vasilis Kallias previously owned and operated Opa at 558 State Street, which closed last year, and the Mercury Cafe, which shut down last June due to damage from the fire at the neighboring Capital Hill Apartments/Underground Kitchen. Kallias says that he does plan to reopen Mercury eventually after post-fire work is done, but "it's going kind of slow."

On the menu at Take Five: a mix of Greek and other Mediterranean dishes, says Kallias, including gyros, spanikopita, moussaka, and even a beef stroganoff. The tentative opening date is slated for April 5.
