Donna O'Donnell confides that she never brings her lunch to work: "I love lunching out and being social," she writes. Despite that, O'Donnell is also adamant about this fact: "I am not a foodie." However O'Donnell is a dedicated vegetarian (though she won't touch mushrooms). She also participates actively in several local fundraisers. She'll be "Freezin' for a reason" at the upcoming Special Olympics Wisconsin Polar Plunge as well as participate in next August's MS 150 Best Dam Bike Ride.
Mad Town Lunch: Donna O'Donnell
Occupation: Technical writer, aspiring programmer analyst (a.k.a. college student).
Where do you work? Madison's far east side.
Foods you love: Indian, Indonesian, Thai, pizza, most anything involving garlic or goat cheese, fresh fruits and vegetables.
Foods you prefer to avoid or won't eat: Meat, seafood, poultry, mushrooms, eggplant.
Favorite places to eat lunch in Madison: Takumi, Maharaja, Maharani, Bandung, Bahn Thai, Taj Indian, Edo, Great Dane, Qdoba.
Fallback -"go-to" lunch place: Great Dane. Their nachos are like crack to me; plus it's quick and inexpensive.
Favorite lunch dishes: The easiest is an Indian buffet, $10.50 at Maharaja East. Lots of vegetarian choices there and very close to the area where my sister, brother, friends and I all work. It is also very quick and the staff is really friendly.
Now-defunct Madison restaurant(s) you long to eat at again: I'm going to have to head to De Forest for this one. Sizzling Hut, I miss you!!
If you could eat only on one side of town, which would you pick?: Willy Street/Atwood. So much going on and such a great variety.
What's your # 1 food desire yet-to-be-fulfilled? Goat cheese nachos. Yeah, let's go with that.
Finally... beignets or funnel cakes? Always beignets!
Do you have a question to Isthmus readers about food? I would love to find a "regular" restaurant that doesn't believe that being vegetarian equals "Must Love Mushrooms." Seriously, people! It's fungus!
