Ladonia Cafe is now making regular appearances at the Library Mall (10 a.m.-2 p.m.) and on the Square at the Farmers' Market (8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday). The all-vegan menu boasts a more-than-credible BLT made with tempeh bacon and a gluten-free tamale dish (tamales without lard? Yep), as well as chocolate-chip waffles that also come with the tempeh bacon. The housemade ginger limeade is a must.
The Lao Laan-Xang cart is back on the Square at Wisconsin Avenue and Mifflin Street most weekdays (11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.) after sporadic appearances last summer. Its Facebook page provides updates.
The Indonesian cart Fortune Cafe has a mostly new menu, adding sesame chicken, mixed vegetables, coconut rice, bihun goreng (stir-fried veggies with rice-stick noodles) and homemade kerupuk (a snacky, deep-fried starch-and-rice cake) to its ginger chicken and cendol. Balago egg is no more, and most of the Italian entrees have left. Pisang molen (kind of a banana-chocolate fritter) has joined the dessert menu. Fortune often vends in the 1200 block of West Dayton and with the Let's Eat Out Madison group.
