A few words about El Poblano Restaurant, 3737 Milwaukee St., in the parking lot of Woodman's East.

Located along with Pan and Pan Bakery in the former Popeye's, El Poblano is not new; the Mexican restaurant is actually about to celebrate its second anniversary on Aug. 23 with "Luchafest 2014," featuring beer, appetizers, celebrity imitators and more. But the sign that finally went up on the building naming El Poblano is new, and should more fully make clear that the restaurant side of the business is not the bakery serving tacos, nor is it the short-lived La Joya that was at the same spot.

El Poblano offers tacos, tamales, burritos, tortas, quesadillas, enchiladas, fajitas, tostadas and huaraches, with a choice of fillings from asada (steak), fried zucchini, chorizo, el pastor (marinated pork) and chicken. Unusual for a small taqueria, fish/seafood tacos are also available, three ways -- with blackened tilapia, fried tilapia or shrimp.

Bakery goods are also available, as are cakes and arroz con leche.
