Las Cazuelas

Where are you eating and what do you think? What's opening, closing, succeeding, failing?

Las Cazuelas

Postby Woofer » Wed Aug 31, 2011 2:37 pm

I've stopped by Las Cazuelas in the Butler Plaza a few times in the past couple of weeks around lunchtime and it's always closed. There's a little pile of slid-under-the-door mail accumulating, and no signage or other indication of what's going on. Does anyone know if it's officially closed, or only open for dinner, or what? If it's closed, I'm bummed because I still had an unused restaurants.com certificate for the place...!

I read (can't remember where) that it is closed. Seems like that location is cursed.

The Isthmus Eats list indicates it is unqualifiedly closed, and the restaurant's website is no longer.

I've heard that's a difficult building in which to do business.

The place has been papered over. A pizza place is going in there. I am glad to see that the oven will get some good use. I am sad that I will have to smell pizza on my way out of the gym. I think it said it was opening in November.

The Mexican food started out pretty good, went downhill after a while. I don't know why the location should be bad -- it's a really pleasing interior.

I got the impression that it had more to do with the owner than the space.

More than one restaurant failed in the space. I think it might be a question of visibility. It's far enough off E. Wash on an infrequently traveled street that it becomes a matter of out of sight, out of mind.

The operators had some family health issues and weren't able to continue (not to imply that business was gangbusters beforehand). Hopefully the next restaurant in that space will be successful and can make better use of that clay oven.
