"Is the chicken alfredo good?"

Where are you eating and what do you think? What's opening, closing, succeeding, failing?

"Is the chicken alfredo good?"

Do you ask your waitperson if the dish you're thinking of ordering is good?

I have friends who ask this constantly. I would say that once a year or less we get someone who actually lowers their voice and steers them away from something, but for the most part they get the usual "everything's good" type response. I think it's a stupid question.

They're also fond of "what do you recommend?"

Personally I don't ask any questions, but I can see maybe asking this at someplace like Forequarter that experiments and may have a unique special. More often than not we're at someplace more akin to Ha Long Bay and my friends usually get a list of what gets ordered the most by middle-aged white guys. Why bother?

Other common inquiries from our group:

Is the soup made here or from a can?
Is the soup hot?
Do you make your own corned beef?
Do you make the ____ here or is it from Sysco?
Do you make the desserts?

And my favorite, "can the cook make a cheeseburger medium-rare?" This particular friend has sent back more burgers than he has eaten because "nobody in this city can cook a burger to medium-rare!"

It's a fucking hamburger, just shut up and eat it.

I love my friends but I'd pull my hair out.... if I was the kind of person who pulled out perfectly good hair.

Just another reason I want you on my island.

Get the Gretzky and a Bud Light. Because they're always good.

Ah shit, as long as we're on the subject...

I have a buddy who can never just order something. He always follows up with "Can I just get...". He's gotta customize every goddamn thing he orders, whether it's a steak or a hot dog on the golf course.

At least he didn't ask: "Is the chicken alfredo well?"

My favorite restaurant question: Where are the bathrooms in here?
