Takara boycott

Where are you eating and what do you think? What's opening, closing, succeeding, failing?

Takara boycott

Postby Shorty » Sun Apr 27, 2014 8:55 pm

Did you see the protestors Friday in front of Takara? I'm going to boycott Takara.

"No customers entered the Takara Japanese Restaurant on State Street Friday while roughly 30 activists demonstrated on the sidewalk, chanting “Madison, don’t be choosy, say no to wage theft sushi!" Plenty of diners entered the restaurant before the picket formed and a number briskly darted out of the building after paying their bills."

Are you also going to boycott the Takara on Whitney Way?

Sure. I don't like Japanese food anyway.

So you have always boycotted Japanese food. What a noble stance you have taken.

I'm helping them by spreading the word about their protest. I support their cause. And I hope Takara closes and is replaced by something better.

Since you dislike Japanese food, I can see why you might say that. Want another burger joint instead?

Something better than a burger joint. Are you a big Takara fan?

I am, especially their Whitney Way site (free parking). I've only been in the State St. location once (which is one more time than you). But they do delivery and I've ordered from them many times.

Love their sushi.

Henry is pro-labor, 'cept when it gets in the way of his raw fish and seaweed wrap.

I have never crossed a picket line, nor have I ordered from Takara since I first read this thread. I was in a union for over thirty years.

Like Shorty, it sounds like Penquin doesn't like sushi either, so his comments are also hypothetical.

I've known individuals that knowingly accepted less than minimum wage page while working at a Chinese restaurant in town. The restaurant had an apartment where the workers stayed rent-free and the restaurant fed them while they were working, but they only got a couple dollars per hour in actual cash payment. The individuals were content without the situation, due to their status as immigrants without papers.

A dispute with a single employee hardly meets the litmus test for a boycott.

Sounds like the only people boycotting Takara are those who won't eat there in the first place. Ms Vilas and I are going to their Whitney Way location this evening (free parking and all).
