Steely Dane - a tribute show on 9/2

Postby andywallman » Sat Aug 21, 2010 11:57 am

A bunch of area rockers and jazzers are most excited to present unto you a Steely Dan tribute concert.

They are: Dave Adler, Dave Stoler, Joey Banks, Biff Blumfumgagnge, Patrick Breiner, Michael Brenneis, Steve Burke, Claude Calliet, Jim "Pie" Cowan, David Davenport, Kay Dixon, Jim Doherty, Al Falaschi, Megan Hamm, Vince Jessie, Clay Konnor, Courtney Larsen, Phil Lyons, Jay Moran, Gordon Ranney, Pete Ross, Pauli Ryan, Anders Svanoe, Jon Schipper and Andy Wallman.

The ever-playing Mssrs. Adler and Stoler cooked up this idea, and it promises to be an event of epic proportions.

It'll be at Ze High Noon Sa-Loon starting early at 8:00 so you can bring your grandparents who used to chase the dragon while listening to Steely Dan's amazingly produced records back in the day. More Steely Dan will be played after the show to keep the Danning going. Hope you can make it.

If they move those monitor speakers, they could fit another dozen players.

Man, what a great show this was. Congrats to everyone, especially Dave Stoler and Dave Adler. This was seriously cool.

I have to thank all that were involved as it is a blessing to hear these great songs played live. Very good indeed. And not just a dude fest either. The joy on people's faces reminded me of the Dead shows I was lucky to see, not the same crowd, but that magic feeling had some place to go last night. Can't wait for another midnight cruise with Steely Dane.

The show was a blast! Do it again (sorry about that), please. And next time, how 'bout getting some Steely Dane tee shirts....

The show was great ... I got the impression that the performers were a little astonished at how many people showed up. Loved the boat captain's appearance. Great extended encore solo. Wonderful Freedy vocals on Babylon Sisters.

Would love to see it again, and YES to Steely Dane t-shirts!

Did you guys play FM? If you did, I missed it. If you didn't, I still missed it!

Let me echo the others-- wow. I was astounded with not only the arrangements and musicianship, but that you guys somehow managed to shuffle, what, 25 players in various combinations on and off stage in a timely manner without someone falling or killing any equipment.

Major kudos to Dave Stoler for the work in charting it all out. I can't imagine the number of hours he put into that.

Please, please do it again.

Also, it was great to see a pile of the musicians show up at the Wisco for the God Damns afterward. Great way to wrap up the evening.

I found myself listening to some live Steely Dane today and thinking "shit, I can't wait for these folks to do a reprise!" Thanks again!

I was so excited to hear about this show, and then so disappointed to realize I'd be out of the country for work. My husband annoyingly reported that it was one of his favorite shows ever. If there's a next time, I'm there.
