Star Persons: Madison's best shot at pop success...

Postby theblackandwhitenews » Thu Mar 24, 2011 2:16 pm

The nature of Pop music is akin to that of a politician...

Your goal from the start is to attempt to please everyone... which as many saying go.. is a near impossibility. Hence so few pop bands and so few likable politicians.

If, at your core, your message is not genuine, unique, and original, the populace will see through your act and, despite your best efforts, no one will like you.

Madison's electro pop band, Star Persons, is attempting to walk this tightrope. They have the talent. Their efforts are sincere. But how will they be received by a finicky pop culture?

Decide for yourself and let me hear about it:

I downloaded the Starpersons EP (when it was free) after seeing them on the Urban Theater.
They need Veronica Chase as a permanent member (or another semi-sexy female vocalist). Tarty Veronica was nice to watch, although I think she needs to up the sex appeal a bit more, because let's face it, sex sells..
The Black Eyed Peas didn't blow up and probably wouldn't have blown up had they not recruited Fergie. Sad but true.
Funny though that one of the only BEP singles I actually liked, "weekends", was pre-Fergie.

Yo, MM, strap your hands across something living. Try talking to a real human being, for Bob's sake. Get your cave-bound bootie on any metro bus bound for a Capitol protest ... and mingle. Ask questions. Listen closely and ask yourself, "Is this more compelling than a spambot? Is this more compelling than anesthetic?"

"Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeit!" I mean, look around you!

"They need Veronica Chase as a permanent member "

Veronica Chase will be at the next show...

And I couldn't agree with you more...
A female vocalist is a necessity in pop music groups.
If for no other reason than... girls are hot.

Stupid band name and song. Horrible music. Cheesetastic production. Makes Flock of Seagulls sound profound.

And these are the GOOD things I thought about this.

She's a major talent...but she's also an easy going wisconsin girl.

Woah woah woah, I didn't ask to see behind the curtain. Build the fantasy up don't tear it down!

Stealth marketing perhaps, but as long as there's a real person behind the post it's all good.

if you google veronica chase, here's the first thing that comes up:

I guess we're all selling ourselves in one way or another....

When you hype yourself in the hype exchange section, you seem more legit.

Whoa, nipsies!

I like the start of the video. It reminds me why I like HBO's (older) fly-by movie intro.

Don't shortchange the songwriting. Hard to judge on a brief song snippet though. Obviously some skills went into creating all of this. Don't succumb to the dark side of The Force.

I like the name.

Playing this weekend (June 24th) @ the Terrace opening for these precise mammals. And K. Raydio, who is definitely a Madison voice ready to make national noise, too.
