What Are The Good Paul McCartney Songs?

Music news, rumors, what you're listening to, how you're listening to it and whether it's all on the up-and-up.

I mean it sincerely when I say I'm glad you guys had a great time. But it seems odd to me that both positive reviews here feel it's necessary to mention that, even though he's an old geezer, he was still good. Either it rocked or it didn't. I'm going to Dick Dale tonight and his age has nothing to do with anything, IMHO.

Then there's this:
david cohen wrote:It was light on the fluff and heavy on the Beatles catalogue including some real gems like Your Mother Should Know and For The Benefit of Mr. Kite.

In what world is "Your Mother Should Know" not fluff? Easily one of my least favorite Beatles songs (and pretty obviously a tossed-off piece of fluff.) And why would anyone want to hear Paul perform "Mr. Kite"? I'm very confused by that.

well, Prof., perhaps because there isn't anyone left alive to perform either of those tunes? I like the psychedelia aspect of Mr Kite. Always have. Your Mother Should Know is nice little diddy and another song none of the Beatles ever tackled live..soo...YMMV.

Among Paul's many, many granny songs, it's better than "You Gave Me the Answer," worse than "When I'm Sixty-Four."

Agreed.

I love "Mr. Kite", I'm just not sure how I feel about Paul singing it. I'm curious -- did he acknowledge John and George when he did that and "Something"? ("Eight Days A Week" also kinda baffles me.)

Happy to see "1985" and "Vanderbilt" on that list instead of the hits from that record. Cool to see "Lady Madonna" too (that one never gets the props it should, IMO. Amazing fucking single.) It sounds like he gave the fans what they wanted and a splendid time was had by all, which is awesome. Just 'cuz it ain't my bag doesn't mean I'm not glad he's doing it right for those who crave seeing him live.

Oh, and because I can't resist (adopts Nelson voice): "I didn't think he was gonna do 'Yesterday' but then BAM! Second encore!"

I've always liked Mull of Kintyre. Don't hear it much round these parts.

My kids pointed out that he acknowledged George, John, Linda, Jimi, Clapton, his current wife and band..but never mentioned Ringo;)

Of course not. All of the other Beatles were always jealous of Ringo, 'cause they knew that they were nothing&nobodies until he started drumming for 'em and that just tore 'em up inside.

I really, really wanted to hear "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" with Christopher Walken on stage screaming "MORE COWBELL!!!"

Mr. Walken must have been busy.

UPDATE:

I have added "Eat At Home", "Give Ireland Back To The Irish" and "Country Dreamer" to my list of Paul songs that I like. Please note none of these were performed at his show in MKE.

wow, that set list is way light on the last three and a half decades. I guess that's probably giving the people what they want, but still... jeepers.

26/40 songs are Beatles tunes, which is to be expected I guess. Pretty sure Ringo gets at least that percentage in whenever HE tours.
