The Kyle Army will crush all who dare to defy it.

We will gather tomorrow night at Montmartre to get instructions from our glorious leader.

Be there or be destroyed.

Katy Perry is not invited.

Maybe she secretly wants Kyle to crush her?

I mean, if nothing else it would end the living hell that is being Kate Perry.

I think she is an unbelievably sexy woman with some cute ideas making generic pop music.

I expect that TV commercial for the MTV awards (or whatever it is that she hosted this year) that ran constantly on late night TV resulted in the deaths of trillions of sperm cells. And that's just counting me.

I'd say Katy is more like the next Debbie Gibson than say the next Madonna. She'll put out another album, it'll have one okay hit, and that'll be the end of her pop stardom.

You have a fascinating posting history. Is there a free list of all the public forums you can spam with pseudo-information about dentristry? Who pays you? You seem to be following along with the thread topics everywhere you post, be it here, or the Arbor Day forum, or the Zen Habits forum, etc.; doesn't that cut into your revenues? How did you get this gig?

The second major Katy Perry single is also seriously stupendous...

She writes a lot of her music, key towards the critical goal of owning her brand, which she seems to easily grasp.

Keep an eye on this one.

Toronto Daily Star, August 23, 2010 wrote:If you had predicted, when “I Kissed A Girl” first rocketed to ubiquity in 2008, that Katy Perry would in two short years be poised to become one of the biggest pop stars on the planet rather than a one-hit wonder seeking employment on some Surreal Life-esque reality-TV show, you’d likely have been laughed out of town.

Here we are, though, with Teenage Dream now standing as pretty much the only hope for EMI’s continued financial solvency until the next Coldplay album comes along and the future Mrs. Russell Brand blossoming into one of the ultra-mainstream’s more likeable bubblegum propositions.

Billboard wrote:As previously reported, Perry becomes the 10th woman to concurrently place two titles in the Hot 100's top five as a lead act. Her "Teenage Dream" jumps 9-5, while her former six-week No. 1, "California Gurls," rebounds 4-3.

Here is a recap of the 10 female soloists to double up simultaneously in the Hot 100's top five. Donna Summer, Mariah Carey and Beyonce are the only women to do so with two different sets of songs:

Linda Ronstadt
"Blue Bayou," "It's So Easy," 1977

Olivia Newton-John
"Hopelessly Devoted to You," "Summer Nights" (John Travolta & Olivia
Newton-John & "Grease" Cast), 1978

Donna Summer
"Bad Girls," "Hot Stuff," 1979
"Dim All the Lights," "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" (Barbra
Streisand/Donna Summer), 1979

Madonna
"Crazy for You," "Material Girl," 1985

Whitney Houston
"I Will Always Love You," "I'm Every Woman," 1993

Mariah Carey
"Fantasy," "One Sweet Day" (Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men), 1995
"Shake It Off," "We Belong Together," 2005

Monica
"The Boy Is Mine" (Brandy & Monica), "The First Night," 1998

Beyonce
"Baby Boy" (featuring Sean Paul), "Crazy in Love" (featuring Jay-Z),
2003
"If I Were a Boy," "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," 2008

Rihanna
"Disturbia," Take a Bow," 2008

Katy Perry
"California Gurls" (featuring Snoop Dogg), "Teenage Dream," 2010

Wikipedia wrote:
"California Gurls…spent six weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has sold over three million digital copies to date.[29]

The album's second single is its title track…The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number twenty and has since reached number five.[33]

3 million units in 11 weeks? Two singles in the top 5?

Zowie. Looks like she has something going on after all.

Carry on.

From that impressive list, take out the acts who put another superstar voice on the microphone for one of the tracks. You're left with a truer estimation of quality vs. popularity, IMO.

Linda Ronstadt, Madonna, Whitney Houston. Everyone else (including Rihanna, though not listed) borrowed another known voice for one of the listed songs. Those other ones (Olivia Newton-John, Donna Summer, Mariah Carey, Monica, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Katy Perry), by my esimation, clearly occupy the "popular but not groundbreaking" side of the discussion.

But good on ya for predicting Perry's popularity. I can't stomach any aspect of her schtick, so I'll leave future prognostication and theorizing to you and the other pros.

Katy is still mad at her high school crush for shunning her. Poor girl. She dropped out after freshman year and got a GED. Who needs education.

She is hardly talented or original, just hot.

There would probably be some lawsuits going on around the music she "wrote" if it weren't for the fact that the guy who actually writes her songs and produces her, Lukasz Gottwald, is just copying his own stuff and releasing it under a handful of "artists" he produces.

Case in point.

Our Katy was censored from Sesame Street for too revealing clothing. C'mon, Katy, clean it up a bit for the kids.
