Box o'wine

Postby bluethedog » Sun Nov 25, 2007 8:07 am

I bought one at Target last night. It nicely solves the problem of having to drink a whole bottle or let it go to waste.

It tasted fine to me (not that I know anything about wine). Anyone else do this? Recommendations?

I bought one that had some weird sludge in it. I think it was "Trove".
The black box brand is OK though.

i've never bought a box. How does that solve that problem, doesn't it go bad if it's in a box too?

Supposedly not as the wine is not exposed to air so it prevents oxidation (that's what it said on the box I got).

Love the boxes! In theory, yes, the wine is preserved by the lack of exposure to oxygen, but in practice, I drink a lot more wine when I have a box: Bottles function not only as a vessel, but also as a measuring stick. I know that the presence of two empty bottles on the table means it's beyond time to stop drinking. A box gives no such feedback, and compensates for that shortcoming only in hangovers.

Ha ha. bdog, who are you?

I just talked to a consumer relations person at Black Box named Lisa. I asked her about phthalates and she said she'd never heard of them. She referred me to this website - their packaging manufacturer's website: http://www.scholle.com/2008/06/bpa-announcement/

No BPA, but nothing about phthalates.

Hi Meade, I'm fine.

Massimo is correct - the box tells no tales. But I do find I can drink boatloads of the Franzia chillable red with little bad effects the next day.

In the future we'll all be drinking from boxes.

Nothing but this, anyway:
One example of this is Scholle Packaging’s HyBar product line, which combines polyethylene terephthalate (PET: recycling symbol number 1)

A rose by any other name ...
