Why not just embrace the elitism? I have. Look, we're better and we don't like rubes around here. Now, was that so hard?

Maybe if we stopped pretending to be accepting of every jerk in jorts from the hinterland, property values might plateau and I might be able to get a burrito without having to wait behind 15 Mukwonagans.

Wait, there's burritos involved? Real ones? Like the kind I got back home in Chicago? Or just the kinda crappy blanded-down-for-the white-folks kind that plateau just below mediocrity so that rubes from itty bitty Mayberry ass towns that don't even have a half a million people don't have to broaden their horizons?

You can get real burritos from Mexicans in non-franchised restaurants in the little tiny town of Green Bay. Travel around some and you will notice folks may have broader horizons than you suspect.

I took a look at the Green Bay Gannet paper (7/13) with a thought of the prejudice found here on the DP and it is broadminded to me.

Opinion page

Editor: Need to get children outside playing instead of TV and video games.

Columnist: Congress must watch for business ripping off the taxpayers with a nonprofit tax shelter.

Letters:
1) We must learn to live together, an article about non-violence and peace

2) Put a casino in an empty retail store

3) Need to find solutions to help homeless children and low cost housing.

4) Museum curator is doing a great job, check out the Jerry Dell exhibit.

5) Closing the Florence schools is a very bad idea.

6) Keep the kewaunee school board incumbents.

Broadening horizons has little or nothing to do with indulging hicks in their far-flung turf wars. However, there's little that bores more than hearing some transplant from a larger city deride Madison for its lack of offerings. If you think moving from a bigger town is admirable on its face, think again. We've all chosen to live here for one reason or another, so constant jabs only bring up the question of what you're doing here if you think so little of the place.

I've lived in bigger cities than Madison, but I think Madison is a cool place and have enjoyed every time I've visited my family there and come for work reasons.

UWMad grad story from Austin, TX.

TX dude, "Texas is the best state in the USA."

UWMad grad, "Where else have you lived?"

TX dude, "Never been out of Texas, cause it's the best."

The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority

rube

An unsophisticated country person

plateau

A relatively stable level, period, or state

Bascially, CityMouse is telling CountryMouse that he is better than him 'cause he lives in the City and since CountryMouse doesn't, that means he shouldn't be in the way when CityMouse want to get a bite to eat......to which CountryMouse starts to sing a lil' song:

'Cause you can't stomp us out and you can't make us run,
and we're them ole boys raised on shotgun.
We say grace, we say ma'am,
if you ain't into that we don't give a damn.
We're from North California and South Alabam'
and little towns all around this land.
We can skin a buck, and run a trout line
and a country boy can survive,
country folks can survive,
country boy can survive,
country folks can survive.

I wish the insults on this board were coming from conservative republicans, because guys like jjoyce and the rest of the closed clique here are just great for deflating the spirit of someone that has been fighting for exactly the same liberal goals.

The message I hear is get out and I probably will. I've never been much into joining up for things and this is a good lesson on not doing so in the future.

Aw. Stick around a bit. Igonore the insecure and those who aren't able to pass over things that they don't want read. The insults, threats and language are just the dues ya pay when dealing with libs in general, not just in the Forum.

But as my Granny used to say, "consider the source".

It's just different perspectives. Neither is better or worse. From my viewpoint I've seen ignorance from both sides(and even spewed a little myself). I like Madison but I gotta admit, some of the insiders here are waaaaay to egotistical for their own good. Thing is, they don't realize it which is part of the fun of watching them make asses of themselves. The good part is there is always someone here to call them on it. I've lived in Wisco my whole life and I can say that Madison is probably the best city in the state to live in, at least for me. What's funny is how over-inflated peoples opinion of this city really is. Yeah, it's got some cool things and I've had some really great times here but the attitude of some people can be pretty offputting. It's like Madison wants to be this all welcoming city on the surface and puts on a great front but if you don't agree with it's politics 100% or hang in the right circles, you're outcasted. Kind of hypocritical I guess and a lot of folks outside of Madison see that and I think that's where people start having issues with Madisonians. I guess no city anywhere is without it's share of bias and a good thing about Madison is that people at least can discuss it and have arguments. You just will pay for voicing your opinion here if it goes against the majority.
