5K the Hard Way

Postby Marvell » Wed Jul 16, 2008 9:42 am

Typically I would note this milestone with some kind of pithy literary reference.

Lately, however, I'm not feeling a lot of poetry in my soul. I guess I just have to have faith - that my joie de vivre will return.

Sometimes life is just one big fucking slog.

So I keep slogging.

Marvell,

Listen to me carefully.

You need to leave Madison now.

Like you, I found myself at the end of a relationship, in my eary 30s and in Madison. I saw the sun-bleached boneyard of my future: unavailable married friends with kids, 23 year old airheads, 37 year old frumpy hippie chicks, chubby state worker babes in Lee jeans and Badger sweatshirts, dead-end job, crappy apartment, a million nights at the Union terrace, a billion walks up one side of State St and down the other....and I got the fuck out.

It was the best thing I ever did.

Madison's a place for college kids and "settled" folks. Not movers like you and I.

Do it and do it now.

Did you encounter, upon reaching the Twin Cities, that your newfound married friends with kids were available?

Congrats on the milestone, Marvell.

Movers and shakers, they move to Minneapolis.

Coming from Boston, you might want to rethink your snark attack.

I don't care where he goes. He just needs to go.

The mountainous frontier region between Pakistan and Afghanistan, that's where the action is! Screw Minnesota. And the ladieez is hot, hot, HOT, underneath their burquas.

So this guy basically couldn't connect with anyone in Madison so he moved and now obsesses on the town he left and promotes that as a way forward.

ok.

Marvell, do the self-care stuff. You know what I mean. We're in a recession.

Maybe you just need a little vacation.

Biggest mistake of my life, was picking up a guy, out of town, and making it permanent. Shoulda kept it a vacation.

I'm about ready to rewatch Richard Pryor. I need to laugh so hard, my sides ache and laughter tears are running down my face.
