I have to say that the recent story on the Edgewater was good. That's the kind of journalism that will be missed when/if the Isthmus goes down. But, the rest of the issue was another nothing.

Even aside from Craigslist (which is full of national spam and often not easy to filter), Isthmus online classifieds are horrible now thanks to the newer system. I would love to use them more often, but everything's lumped together in a big mass of ick. So I don't.

Isthmus keeps Thursday special. If I don't finish it during a long meal, if sits atop the magazine stack, in my bathroom. I really enjoyed the Edgewater and the Staying Alive small businesses articles. I'd hate to be left with Madison Newspapers, as they are now.

What's your deal? Kinda feels like you're agitating for something to happen.

...that will be missed when/if...

When, other than in this thread, has there even been a rumor of Isthmus folding in any way other than down the middle?

Whatever I have to say will not determine the future of the Isthmus. I think advertisers will make that decision. Based on the product I am seeing lately it looks like a slow leak. I think some of the other posts here have also spelled out why the Isthmus is losing cred. A shame, but times change.

But so have so many huge websites absolutely laying down for whatever format and price the agencies demand for online ads. The value of online advertising far outweighs the prices and it's definitely a buyer's market right now.

The problem for newspapers and all media companies right now is that it's really hard to tell how much of the lag has to do with the economy or the changing landscape.

The thing is, there are people who don't have computers and/or the internet. So if craigslist or the internet are the only ways to get jobs, these people are out of luck. The homeless certainly have no way, except if they use library computers - but those are limited to half an hour to an hour, not much time to look for a job.

A newspaper, on the other hand, is a way for anyone to look up jobs, or it was. This is the problem with technology. Those who have it assume everyone else does too.

Where the hell have you been?
Check the masthead.
The only thing worthwhile now is Leuders.
The rest is near useless.
It used to my fave rag, too, Bwis, but now has not even enough interesting substance to last during a snack, let alone a meal.
And I'm finished with it long before I get to the bathroom.

Come on. Complaints of quality or edge /= impending collapse. They just don't. And I don't begrudge anyone the right to complain. Just think about how long the Cubs have been sucking.

Actually, I once applied for a job here - years ago. Part time, I think it was an office job and I talked to Kathy Bailey. Didn't get it though.

I like the paper though and always have.

The downward spiral began when T-I was talked into buying the stapling machine.

Worst business decision ever.

I hate to say I told you so.

I think T-I can have whatever he likes (he likes). Yeah, he can have whatever he likes (he likes).

I'm sure this has nothing to do with your perceived (and often bitched-about) snub for writing the advice column.

Also, for what it's worth, I like the staples, plus the majority of the content; not to mention the most comprehensive guide to downtown events and entertainment.

No, I don't work for them either.
