Wanted: Free Car to live in

Postby Dairylander » Thu Mar 25, 2010 5:41 pm

Anyone else been watching this guy's ad in the classifieds?
If you do the crossword each week, you can't miss it.
It used to appear like a charity case - homeless guy needs a place to sleep, but I became cynical as I saw the ad run week after week, his photo changing every time.
Now he's dropped the "free to live in" part and is just looking for a "$500 good running car."
People are kind and sympathetic, and I think this guy was taking advantage of that. I hope I'm wrong.

And hey Cortez, is that your sister's Siberian puppy for sale in the ad right above the car guy?

You could probably ask him [Rocky, not Cortez, who is no longer with us in that form] yourself. He's not exactly inconspicuous downtown, though I haven't personally seen him recently.

I've been seeing that ad all the time, too. I was mildly excited when I saw it because that guy is my favorite Terrace character (mainly just because I am both fascinated and horrified by his ginormous sideburns).
Then I started to wonder, is that REALLY the guy who placed the ad, or did some other person just use his picture because they knew the guy is recognizable and would attract attention?

I once used Scanner Dan's pic for a personals ad.
It got me a lot of action.

I feel like I've seen him in person recently and he did not have the turbo muttonchops.

You're not imagining things, he's clean-shaven in this week's ad as well.
I'm glad to hear that he's a local Madison character, and not some sleazy used car dealer.
Faith in humanity restored.

Did he change his username after his tirade against bluethedog?

I think the guy should try taking away the picture altogether. On the same two page spread this issue you've got his dark shaded frowning mug, the creepy hypnotherapy guy, and the Isthmus GreenDay ad featuring Bill Mckibben looking not unlike a chimpanzee.

I'm far from Cary Grant but then again I'm not trying to drum up business with my picture.

I always do the puzzle and I am totally creeped out by the sex ads, this car dude and the hyponotherapy dude. The cost of running the ad probably already surpassed the $500 bucks tht he needs for this beater car. BTW I think the ad is a sham because there is no such thing as a 3 cylinder car, only 2, 4, 6, or 8, so I think the ad is designed to be messin' with your head.

They used to sell 3 cylinder Geo Metros. But I don't think a big fella would want to live in one of those.

Is that Emmy Fink, wearing pink, on the previous page, next to Steve Carrell? Her bra looks uncomfortable.

Not exactly.

Maybe he wants to live in Europe.

Don't forget this classic, a 3-cyl Saab:

A little pricey to live in, by the square foot.
