Stop changing people's posts when quoting them

Postby admin » Tue Jun 11, 2013 7:43 am

One of the worst ways people argue here is the "fixed it for you" gimmick on quoting. Starting today, if you do it, you'll have your account suspended.

Example:

User A writes "I believe in Santa."

User B writes:

I believe in the Easter Bunny.

There. Fixed it for ya.

That is fucking retarded. How about this then:

The Admin just said, and I quote: "I had sex with the Easter Bunny." -- but I don't use the quote feature, do I still get suspended?

How about we focus on keeping Bea Arthur's Boobs to minimum on the forum first.

You better stop it or this thread is gonna get locked!

To try and be somewhat fair, the quote alteration gambit tends to be annoying more often than funny.

And on further reflection, I hope the people who bitch about the admin not policing the TDPF are not turning around and bitching when he does.

I gotta say it's helpful to know exactly what will result in banning (assuming this threat is carried out for more than the next three days). We see dozens of purposely annoying posts every day, and we can't be expected to just magically know which particular one crossed the line.

Quote-changing never bothered me much -- most of the time it's funny, and the evidence is right there on the screen so it's hardly a sneaky move. I would never have picked this for a bannable offense, though it's perfectly fair now that we're notified.

I would never have guessed saying "left-tards" was bannable either, since a whole alphabet of stupid right-wing shorthand has been permitted for months and months. It all seemed bannable to me but I'm not admin so I kept it to myself.

Telling us the rules will result in less quote-changing and left-tard-talk over time than just assuming everybody will figure it out some way. That's the goal, right? And disclosing the information is the means to the goal.

So if there's some other misdemeanor that's next up on the banning list, why not tell us now? Maybe people will quit doing it.

Yes, by all means, MORE RULES.
More rules with lots and lots of warnings and then endless explainations of why you're going to be suspended, banned, shamed, or just plain hated if you don't straighten up and post right. Or left. Also, debates about the rules, the warnings, the shaming, suspensions, bannings, and hating.

And who doesn't like more rules, right? Besides ProgDemLeft tards, I mean.
ProgDemLeft tards and right-to-lifers.

Who opposes rules, other than those who desire the "freedom" to lie, cheat, steal and generally screw over their fellow man?
