Breakfast

Grocery stores, recipes, cook books, CSAs, farmers' markets, organic, local, processed, corporate. It's a smorgabord!

You know back in my folks "poor immigrant days", another dish they made was that sauteed spaghetti dish, with some bacon bits in it.

Today's ass-kicking breakfast:

chopped Bosc pear
Gorgonzola
toasted almonds and pecans
NZ manuka honey

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Seriously ... I'm a rube. The rest is all a ruse.

But honestly, the traditional English breakfast has got to be one of the most gag-making memories I possess. You wanna talk eggs? Apparently, if it isn't still undergoing cellular division it isn't fit for the breakfast plate in Britain.

Ditto that. 'Black Pudding' isn't really pudding, it's just wrong.

I went to University in Southern England for a year. One of the first breakfasts they served was toast-- white bread browned on one side -- with baked beans and stewed tomato.

Honest. For breakfast. I actually grew to like it but it certainly wasn't love at first sight.

Breakfast

Postby Lily » Tue Apr 10, 2007 8:46 pm

However, my favorite breakfast treat is a large Steep N Brew Italian Expresso with half-n-half and a Farmers Market scone during a warm summer morning sitting on the lawn in front of the Capitol Square watching people, looking for people I know, listening to the street musicians and politicos at their booths by the stairwells.

Couldn't help but think of this since we're expecting 3-4 inches of snow tonight. Sigh.

I keep forgetting to make that thing the mom, in Moonstruck made, for breakfast: hollowed out slice of Gonella bread, egg in center, and pimento? It really looks good.
