Trader Joe's

Postby pattymcnutt » Mon Sep 03, 2007 11:11 am

I don't often shop at Trader Joe's, since a trip there requires driving through the campus area crowds or the beltline, and it is usually packed with yuppies stocking up on organic toothpaste and blocking aisles while they carefully inspect every variety of bruschetta.

But yesterday I decided to brave the crowds so I could fill up my freezer with some delicious frozen foods. And I have too say, I tried their french onion soup (recommended by a friend) last night and it was delicious! I was skeptical when I saw that it comes as a frozen cylinder complete with croutons and cheese on top, but once I popped that in the oven, it became a delicious bowl of heavenly goodness that paired oh so well with a nice amber ale. Healthy? Heck no! But tasty? Indeed!

Yay for Trader Joe's!

They also have easy to make (just mix and put in microwave for 2 minutes) Pad Thai, Satay, and Kung Pao Noodles.

It's easier to find stuff there when it isn't as crowded.

I love this. (Helps that it's one of my all-time favorite songs.)

What? No mention of the six-inch checkout counter that forces you to slide your basket along the floor? And what is with that bell?

Now even that little counter stub has been removed. Evil ascendant.

I find that Trader Joe's has a good selection of Almond Milk. It's close to where I work and the price is reasonable. Love to have this stuff for my morning smoothie. The weekends are crowded but if you go during the week it's not so bad.

Then use a cart. I asked about the bell. It's to get more checkers when the lines get long.

That's cute. Very much like Trader Joe's. It's close to where I live and work so it is convenient but I never go there on weekends. They have great house brand tofu and fresh produce.

My issue with Trader Joe's is that for some reason I always end up making lots of impulse buys there. Usually when I'm going to a market I make a list and stick with it. But at Joe's, somehow when I get home I'm always like What the heck is all this stuff and why did I buy it?

For having a trendy reputation, I was surprised at how reasonable the prices were there.

The main reason why I go there? "Blistered" peanuts. Good thing I don't live close to Trader Joe's....

A Trader Joe's just opened here in West Knoxville. Knoxvillians are still getting used to it.

Not only is the French onion soup really tasty, it's also vegetarian. Unheard of for a good french onion soup.

Actually, the way the original French Onion Soup was made was without any beef stock. Onions, water, bread, cheese, and a lot of time, with multiple de-glazings.
