WHOSE LINE IS IT?

Postby blunt » Sat Nov 10, 2007 2:45 pm

After serving a billion people, servers start getting into a groove (some might say a rut) and wield habitual (but hopefully clever) lines.

At Husnus:
"Everything still tasting okay?"

I walk into McDonalds to order my guilty favorite breakfast.

ME: "I'll have the number 2 breakfast value meal, medium soda to go"

ROBOT WORKER: "That'll be $4.25. Is that here or to go?"

ME: "to go"

It happens everytime.

Do Not Upset The Routine!
Give your order.
Wait untl they ask if it's for here to go.
Move to the side.
Or: NO MORE McFOOD FOR YOU!!!
DO NOT give the employee NICKLES OR pennies to help facilitate even change!
THEM: "That's 1.52, please."
ME: "Here's 2.02."
THEM: "..........................Manager up front!"

The implied message is "This is an experiment and we don't know what to expect. ... Do you feel any pain or discomfort?"

(Not Husnus, of course. They rock -- though very slowly.)

So the appropriate response when a waiter asks if everything is ok: "Why do you ask?"

I'm amazed, that my customers are amazed, when I say some very old fashioned things like: Good Morning! Or: We strive for perfection! My favorite, so far, was getting attention, by addressing two fellows as gentlemen. I made the sale.

One waitress at Shamrock gets right to the point:
"Was it edible?"

Years ago at Bev's:

waitress: how is everything?
wife: my sausage patty is raw in the middle!
waitress: but do you like it?
