I just went to Maurie's
on Monroe Street to sample their wares and had a surprising experience: their expensive chocolate bars are of no better quality than the moderately priced chocolates at Walgreens. I tried the 72% and 91% cacao, both had that waxy texture of a so-so bar. I'd easily take a Dove chocolate bar ahead of either of them.
My nomination for best chocolatier in Madison goes to Walgreens. They carry Ghirardelli
bars, often on sale, and I've never tasted more rich and creamy chocolate.
To be fair to Maurie's, the handful of truffles I tried were very good, they infuse some great flavors. I suppose truffles are their main thing, and customers are happy with them.
Where is great chocolate in Madison? Also, is Godiva's
the endall? I've never tried.
