I can't believe they're here either-- we needed another taco joint nearly as badly as Madison needs more orange traffic pylons.

From the review: "Food wise this is decidedly more of a baja taco joint than say a taqueria and again that’s fine as that’s their goal."

From Fuzzy's Tacos: "Fuzzy's Taco Shop - Home of Fuzzy's Famous Baja Tacos"

Yes, I guess it is their goal.

I'm not sure what you're picking at, here, teach. The reviewer got it...right?

The reviewer wasn't sure it was their goal. A simple google search would have removed their doubt.

Seems like he was right on. He doesn't write "if that's their goal." He writes "as that's their goal."

Looking for more verification. I'm willing to try it but would like to hear more before making the trip.

Good god, it's a two dollar TACO! Do you need to read a prospectus?

I mean both the owner and the manager have already raved about the place in this very thread. What more do you need?

Isthmus says that they opened this location in Madison because one of the co-founders is from WI.

Went to Fuzzy's last night. Basically, you order at a counter, then they call your number and you go get the food on a tray. I got a combo plate w/ chicken enchilada, tempura fish, borracho beans and rice. Overall, I thought it was pretty good--I liked the beans, which had tasty bacon bits, but they were a bit salty. Also liked the addition of feta to the taco. I would go here again. Only problem is that I was still a big hungry when I left--maybe next time I will have an order of chips, too, or add another taco.

Meanwhile, other spartan taquerias are popping up all over town. I am looking forward to trying Los Gemelos on Gilman - heard from several people now that it's surprisingly good and cheap.

As of last night, I can now confirm that it, indeed, does. The lady behind the counter is pretty darned nice and friendly, too. That made things even better.

Tried this last week. Certainly better than Taco Bell, but I don't think it's necessarily better than the other Mexican joints in Madison, at least for tacos. I'll probably go back to try their other dishes (burritos and enchilladas) this winter.

Thoughts:

Chips and Salsa...chewy homemade chips (which I don't mind, but my companion didn't like them, wanted them crispier), average blended salsa. Had to toss in some hot sauce.

Tacos (shrimp, chicken, ground beef, pork, fish): The cilantro is a nice touch that makes the biggest difference for me. Had to add hot sauce to all. Shrimp was the only one I'd call craveable. Nice to have so many filling choices, especially the grilled or fried for the fish and shrimp tacos.

I won't rush back, but won't be upset if someone suggests this place for lunch or a quick dinner.

Plus they had a woman in a giant taco costume standing in the middle of University Ave last Sunday morning.

I make it a general rule to not eat at places that have workers in costumes.

I had lunch there today. The tacos were mighty small and the prices were higher than I imagined. Still a better meal than TBell.

I want to try the breakfast burritos.
