Welcome Back Dog Eat Dog!

Postby workboy7 » Thu May 05, 2011 12:23 pm

It’s official. Dog Eat Dog is opening once again. Located inside of Pooley’s sports bar at 5441 High Crossing Boulevard, Dog Eat Dog will begin serving the only True Chicago Style Dogs and Beefs within 130 miles of Madison in June.

I guess that'll be an excuse to stop at Pooley's after a movie. What's it like in there?

What makes it a "TRUE" Chicago hot dog? Mad Dog on Henry has Vienna Beef dogs.

Well, I know for a fact there are some Portillo's shops well within 130 miles, and their beefs are right up there...

Anyway, looking forward to trying yours! Good luck!

My house to the Portillo's in Crystal Lake = 99.7 miles.

Just sayin' 8)

Hmm, there's also one in Sycamore, which would be a (somewhat) quick detour when I'm on my way to/from my parent's place. Good to know...

But, I'm not here to plug another restaurant, I'm here to make a trivial point about how far away that restaurant is.

oh, and to bump your thread, of course.

Pooley's is a SPORTS bar....like few that I've seen. As a non sports guy, I'm still amazed by how many of the thousands of pictures I recognize. It also has exactly 27,000 TV's. With seating of about 220, there will be plenty of room for the sportless folks too, unless its a game day, then, well, goodluck!

If you're slingin' those hot chip things I used to get on King St., you may have me back now and then.

Otherwise, FIBs is satisfying my craving for Chicago Dogs quite nicely. And with them being a block walk from my office, well, there you go.

Hot chips, dusted with celery salt and served with a side of bleu cheese, are on the menu.

Too bad your business acumen isn't as savvy as your bravado. This must be the worst place on the planet to open a hot dog shop. Unless you are getting some ridiculous break on rent, equipment, or food, I can't imagine your location is central enough to anything to garner sufficient business. It's not like people will drive out of their way for a good hot dog and I don't think you can sufficiently rely on customers shopping in car-dealer alley or the drones from American Family Insurance to patronize your place on a consistent enough basis to stay above water. Good luck, I enjoyed your wares when the shop was located downtown, but I think you're in for a tough ride.

You don't think the sports bar crowd will be picking up what DED is laying down? Seems like a great match to me.

For me (Fair Oaks/Hwy 30), DED will be closer than any other real hot dog place. Yeah, Pooley's is sensory overload, but I'm sure I'll be making some trips out starting in June.

Of course there's always the 'sitting on my couch' option - ordering the delicious Tijuana dog from Burrito Drive. Pretty much a genius creation. Great dog, and the hard bun they chose to use is perfect for a deliverable dog.

I'm slightly disappointed that the east side Rosati's doesn't offer the same menu as the west side location. I've had their dogs delivered while visiting friends west, and, while not awesome, can still hit the spot.
