What's a must in Seattle?

I leave for Seattle for a first-time visit in 2 days. What should I do and see?

::rubs hands together eagerly::

Seattle is one of my favorite places in the country. Since it looks like you're not going to be there during a weekday, you'll miss out on Salumi. Too bad.

Depending on where you'll be, there are a couple places I've been that are fun. Downtown, there's the Space Needle. Unless you've got a Bucket List, I'm not sure the $14+ to get to the top is worth it. But the Experience Music Project is right there, too, and pretty cool. Of course, the locals deride it.

Get to a Tom Douglas restaurant if you can; there are a lot, and they're good. Bon Appetit just named him Restaurateur of the Year for 2008. Other good eateries include Volterra for a finer dining experience, Steelhead Diner for the Pike Place Market vibe, and Copper Gate (website front-page NSFW) for a Nattspil kind of late-night place. If you've ever wondered whether peanut butter and bacon can work on a hamburger, try King's Hardware in Ballard.

Good shopping (local joints as opposed to Nordstrom) can be had in Fremont and Ballard, but you'll need to make sure you've got room in your suitcase. There's good stuff there. Deluxe Junk is a must-see if you like the Simpsons episode "Homer's Phobia."

Ooh, can you bring me a box of these back? They're a "must try".

Discovery Park is pretty damn cool, as is Gasworks Park along the Ballard ship channel.

Also The Blue Moon, if they haven't torn it down by now.

Don't forget that stupid fish market that on Food Network daily.

Also, I remember going to see some locks that were located in a nice park.

I just returned from Seattle. It's a great city.

Be sure to check out Pike Place Market (a bit touristy, but well worth the visit):

Also check out the shops across the street.

The best view of the Seattle skyline can be seen from Kerry Park. It is easy to get to and best of all it is free. Check it out early in the morning or at dusk for the best views:

The ferry ride from Bremerton or Bainbridge is well worth the cost of admission ($10 per vehicle if I recall correctly) and the views are wonderful. Just be sure to arrive early. A sunrise or dusk entrance into Seattle is beautiful:
