What's your 2010 travel plans?

We want to hear about your adventures, be they from Istanbul, Ixtapa or Ixonia. And hey, you might even find someone you can sell your extra Euros to.

If you hadn't already planned on doing this, I'll put a plug in for taking Coleman Valley Road from Occidental out to the ocean.

Most beautiful stretch of road I've ever been on in my life.

Hey, thanks for the tip Marvell. I have been on Coleman Valley Rd. before, but only as far as it splits off from Joy Rd. coming out of Occidental. I will definitely check that out!

Nope, Belgium. Apartment in the center of Antwerp. Leave in two weeks, return anywhere from late July to mid August.

The Dutch and the Belgians love each other like Sconnies love FIBs (the Belgians call the dutch Cheeseheads, in fact), so it'll be interesting being on the other side of that divide this time around.

I did make it to the southernmost Asia and back. East Timor is a lovely little country full of proud and independent people. It is amazing how the people do so much with so little.

It was hard to come back to the over-consuming lifestyle we live in the US. I did learn to slow down, enjoy what I have, and hopefully do the right thing.

Trips for the rest of the year are for visiting the older members of my family.

How was South Korea? Thinking of going there to visit a friend, he's teaching English there.

South Korea was amazing-although I did not get to see anything except Seoul and I was working much of the time. I recommend going if you have the chance. Visit the palaces, eat the street food, visit the outdoor and underground markets, go to Noodle Alley, try Korean BBQ, ride the subway, go to Seoul Tower, walk through the park. Then hop a short flight to Tokyo!

Been in Antwerp 2 weeks now, and I highly recommend it. Fantastic walking/biking city. Bonus: I'll be in town for De Koninck's Bollekesfeest, which should help make up for the fact that I've never been to a beer fest, to my lasting shame. May as well start big.

Bummer: the only 1-stop flight I could get to Belgium from Madison was AA, Madison-Chicago-Brussels. Shithole O'Hare, shithole airline, and I had to have someone pick me up in Brussels. If I didn't have two giant suitcases, I'd've flown Madison-Detroit-Amsterdam on Delta and hopped the train to Antwerp. Two relatively pleasant hours, or one if you spring for the Thalys high-speed, and the train station is 6 blks from my apt.

Annoying discovery: almost all milk in Belgium is UHT, sold off the shelf instead of from the dairy cooler. Wasn't expecting that, since Holland, an inch to the north, has cold milk everywhere.

I think, on balance, I'm more Dutch-y than Belgian-y. But Flemish is a lot easier to pronounce than Dutch, even though it's the same language. Not so much throat clearing.

Just short trips this year, as we are saving up the bucks to hit Europe (Western Mediterrean) next summer. Tomorrow, off to Vegas for the weekend and take in the Badger-UNLV game. We'll also see a show, hit the restaurants and piss away a few bucks in the casinos.

We also just booked an end of the year trip to visit my dad (and stepmom) in Arizona for his ninetieth birthday.

Just got back from Korea. Korea was great, talk about a booming economy, unlike some economies around here *cough cough*. Only spent 2 days in Seoul but also saw Busan and Daejeon. As for Japan, well, I was there a few years ago. :P

Just booked. Barcelona in early June. More on the eventual 2011 thread.

Admittedly I was only in Barca for one day, but you gotta get to Seville (and Madrid, and Granada, and Malaga, etc.).
