best tv show EVER

How can cultural elitists like ourselves put TV in the Culture category? Well, where the hell else is it going to fit?

Only after years of therapy.

Great Heroes of the Bible belongs on the list somewhere. Deathless line of dialogue:

"Save me, Baal!!!"

And it's all downhill from there...

Sorry, I was not a part of no child left behind, and thus I was left behind when it comes to math. Although now that I think about it, let's focus on the word "remembering". If you "remember" the 70's you were probably not a spirited youth in the 70's since that would likely mean you do not "remember" the 70's due to massive intake of various memory-reduction substances. I have not yet completed my anthropological study with full carbon dating analysis to determine what the general age of people were who did not participate in such activities during those years, but I suspect that generally they were in their late 30's or higher. Having just plugged some numbers into windows calculator, that would make you at least 25 now.

The Wire is the brain child of homicide's David Simon, who also worked on The Corner. Homicide may have been ahead of its time but The Wire is still his crowning achievement.

Not sure about the original BSG either. It was kind of derivative at the time. The new BSG is worth mentioning, though!

Best Shows Ever

Just off the top of my head:

The Simpsons
The Bob Newhart Show
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Battlestar Galactica (the new series)
Northern Exposure
Arrested Development
MASH (until it got too preachy and serious)
Cheers (i even enjoyed the rebecca years)
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Seinfeld
Newsradio
The Twilight Zone
The Kids in the Hall
Monty Python
Father Ted
The X Files (not counting the last two seasons...horrible shit)
The Daily Show

The Office (the american version) is creeping up on the list for me as well...

Schabow and I snap TV towels.
Trivial wonder:
What about the NEW DVD show?
The one in the desert with Hope Lange as his wife?
It has disappeared from our collective memory.
Unfortunately.

My List:

Soap
WKRP
Maude
Barney Miller
Strangers With Candy
The Simpsons
Six Feet Under

And Bellweather, I wouldn't consider Gilmore Girls one of the best, but it does make my list of guilty pleasures.

My measure is whether I'd pay to own the whole run of the show on DVD:

Hell yes.

The Simpsons

I'd buy all the seasons that have been released on DVD so far. I'd probably stop at some point. Sure, it's still a great show, but even its most avid fans would have to admit they're now several seasons past their best. And I'm not a completist for its own sake.

Arrested Development
Monty Python

Easy choices. Of course they're significantly smaller investments than the previous.

And I'd add Mr. Show with Bob and David.

I wonder if this will ever be released to DVD.

Even in syndication, a lot of the originally-licensed music selections have been altered, so negotiating the rights to a DVD release with that music intact would probably be a nightmare, and an expensive one, a la the superb DVD release of Freaks and Geeks.
