The present administration, along with the majority in the Wisconsin Legislature, has destroyed public unions and granted hundreds of millions in special tax breaks for corporations, all in the name of creating jobs. Next to none were created and many more were lost.

Now they are pushing through right wing social policies that have nothing to do with job creation. What hypocrites.

Here is the proposed legislation introduced by Democrats.

Wisconsin Democrats have introduced a package of bills they say are designed to jump-start job creation in the state.

One of the bills would create grants for technical colleges that enroll students for specific projects, such as welding work or infrastructure repair. Another proposal would create the Wisconsin Agriculture Corps, which would connect young people with farm work. Still another would reinstate apprenticeship programs for state construction projects.

The bills have little chance of advancing. Republicans control the Senate and Assembly as well as the governor's office.

For the Democrats to come up with a series of strong, well-thought-out bills focused on job creation at this time would be an excellent strategy. Then, when a general election for governor is held, the Democratic candidates can truthfully say they'd sign those bills.

This would be a big plus for Democratic and independent voters statewide.

Judges again rule for Democratic group in redistricting case

In a scathing ruling, a three-judge panel decided for the third time Tuesday that a Democratic group has a right to an array of information on how Republican lawmakers drew new legislative districts.

Saying that GOP lawmakers and their attorneys have filed "frivolous" motions trying to keep their information private, the panel also required the attorneys for the Republican defendants to pay the attorneys' fees for the plaintiffs for the motion.

"Quite frankly, the Legislature and the actions of its counsel give every appearance of flailing wildly in a desperate attempt to hide from both the court and the public the true nature of exactly what transpired in the redistricting process," the ruling reads.
...

The panel of judges - two of whom are Republican appointees - gave a rhetorical smack to the GOP lawmakers and their attorneys.

The court "will not suffer the sort of disinformation, foot-dragging, and obfuscation now being engaged in by Wisconsin's elected officials and/or their attorneys," the ruling reads.

Three attorneys of the Michael Best & Friedrich firm are being sanctioned as a result - Eric McLeod, Joseph Olson and Aaron Kastens. McLeod has drawn attention in recent days for providing legal services to state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman under an arrangement in which Gableman ultimately did not have to pay.

The GOP in Wisconsin is totally corrupt.

Both parties are guilty of jerymandering these maps each time it is time to re-draw one. Democrats would be doing the same thing if they were in power at the moment.

It's spelled gerrymandering, Einstein, and I doubt the Democrats would be going to such lengths to hide their agenda.

Well that makes it OK then right? Do you think there's maybe different degrees to which you can rig the redistricting or perhaps different methods? I think the complaint is about the process not the results and the ensuing cover up of that process.

Thank you grammar police. You can wax about degrees of severity all you want, but both sides do it. This is barely newsworthy.

For those who don't believe in open government.

BTW, the article is from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which endorsed Walker in 2010. It doubt they will do the same in the upcoming election.

I don't think so any more. The present crop of Republicans have taken things way, way beyond what was formerly the norm -- not just in redistricting, but in so many other ways it's hard to count.

Then they keep yelling as loudly as possible in an attempt to create the prevailing opinion their behavior is perfectly normal. Then they yell as loudly as possible to drown out anybody who disagrees with that.

Basically, they're trying to create an environment where their opinion is the only opinion and their party is the only party.

Well, it's not and it's not, and don't anybody forget it. Today the judges were nobody's fools, and saw through their game.

It gets worse and it involves the usual suspects:

Errors in redistricting process could affect thousands of voters

Thousands of people could be affected by an apparent error in the state's controversial redistricting process that caused them to be listed in the wrong municipalities, school districts or wards, some election officials say.

Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus said Tuesday that information for 14,447 people in her area needs to be corrected.

"And it's bigger than Waukesha," she said.

In their rush to pass redistricting legislation (which was crafted in secret) the GOP screwed it up royally.

The state board that oversees elections in Wisconsin says that it is impossible to strictly follow the laws passed by the Legislature directing where new political boundaries should be drawn.

The Government Accountability Board officials said in a Friday memo to local officials that boundary lines likely "will not strictly match" what the Legislature required because census data was attributed to incorrect municipalities or voting districts.

The board says it is working aggressively with local election officials to make sure voters are assigned to the correct districts to avoid confusion.

The problem could affect thousands of voters.

Officials sued over inaccuracies with election maps

A Democratic group suing election officials over new election maps asked a federal court Monday to sanction the state for not telling it about inaccuracies with the maps.
...

On Monday, the group said in a court filing it wants a three-judge panel to hold an immediate hearing and assess fees against the state because officials had not told it the maps included flawed data even though they have known it since at least November.
