Let me help. I think it was in this topic:
"What's wrong with the GOP, anyway?"
in National Politics and Government, on Feb. 2, 2012, at 4:24 pm, that Meade wrote:
Ironically, the Journal really was a Socialist newspaper, back when it published in German under the name Deutsche Arbeiter Zeitung....
Really? When was "back when"? Was that before the National Socialists in Germany gave socialism a bad name or after the Soviet Socialists in the Soviet Union gave socialism a bad name?
The idea seemed
to be to conflate Nazi-ism with socialism as understood today, which gets conflated with liberalism (see the later segue to discussing the Netherlands, and god help us the Girl Scouts), which gets conflated with Obama, which gets conflated with the Democrat Party, and... well, don't you get it?
Or something. You'll have to read the damn thing yourself and try to figure it out. Detritus, Marvell, and I all tried to sort it out at the time, and Meade wisely backed off and walked away, but now he's here again trying to save face. Or something.
You can't totally blame pj for this one. Trying to figure out what the right wing is saying gets, well, deep. Which was the point of the topic.
