On a related note: Walker shakes up staff at jobs agency after bungled offer

Gov. Scott Walker is shifting staff at the state's flagship jobs agency to strengthen ties with his office and other agencies and respond to a mishandled offer to a potential state contractor.

The changes at the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. follow both the Republican governor's June 5 recall victory and the Walker administration's cancellation of a competitive bid after the WEDC disrupted it by offering state tax incentives to one of the companies involved.

From Hank's link:
WEDC chief executive officer Paul Jadin had previously said that his agency's attorney had signed off on the legality of the "soft offer." But Murray made clear Tuesday that the Walker administration would not be repeating the maneuver because it had the appearance of violating the competitive bid.

Yep, "appearance" of a violation.
That is all. Nothing to see here....

I'd be sensitive about even the appearance of impropriety in the bidding system if the US Attorney was investigating me for similar improprieties at my old job:)

Looks like Walker lied about the contract.

Newly released records show that an offer of tax breaks to a Stevens Point company contingent on it winning a state contract had been accepted, contradicting earlier claims from Gov. Scott Walker's administration that no firm commitment had been made.

The documents provided to The Associated Press under the state's open records law show information systems company Skyward was asked to sign an acceptance of the March 22 proposal making $11.7 million in tax incentives available.

A June 5 email prepared by Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation staff for Walker says Skyward accepted the WEDC offer "to assist" if the company won the bid for a $15 million state project.

Head of Wis. economic development quits

The head of the quasi-public economic development agency Gov. Scott Walker created last year has resigned.

Paul Jadin's decision to quit the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation announced Thursday comes after questions were raised earlier this year about how Jadin and the agency handled an offer of tax breaks to a company also bidding on a multimillion dollar state contract.

Quit or pushed out? I wonder how many new jobs they helped create.

Wisconsin slammed over handling of federal money

The Wisconsin State Journal reported the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development sent a strongly worded letter to Gov. Scott Walker's administration on Aug. 12 ordering them to improve the distribution of economic development money.

Department of Administration spokeswoman Stephanie Marquis told the State Journal in a Wednesday story that the agency for the most part agrees with the conclusions and the corrective actions ordered by HUD.

The HUD letter points to numerous problems resulting from what it called the "hasty" transfer of duties from the former Department of Commerce to the new economic development entity.

Now we know why Paul Jadin quit (or was pushed out).

More on the problems with economic development funds.

State business subsidies hard to track, report finds

More trouble surrounding how the state handles economic development grants.

A new report finds it is virtually impossible to track who gets the money and how it is spent -- despite a four-year effort by the Legislature to improve transparency and accountability in the programs.

Information was available for just 2 of the 251 projects listed on the state’s online database, according to the Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group report. Those grants totaled more than $8 million over the 2009-2010 period reviewed for the report...

State jobs agency lost track of $8 million in overdue loans

For more than a year, the state's flagship jobs agency failed to track whether businesses are repaying loans from state taxpayers - leaving the public in the dark about how much they are owed on a total of $8 million in past-due loans to 99 businesses.

The blunder - only the latest in a whole series of problems at the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. - began at nearly the same time as the quasi-public authority championed by Gov. Scott Walker took over for the state's previous jobs agency.

Hey, knock it off. The important thing here is that there's a nitpick to be found in the transcript of the last presidential debate which, if repeated endlessly, out of context, and misinterpreted, can be made to look like a negative for the Democrats.

How amusing. When they first introduced the WEDC, data showed how other states trying this failed to live up to the mark. It proved to be in a failure in those instances, but hey, lets try it anyways. What a joke.

But hey, who am I to criticize, we're on track to meet that 250k job goal right? Right?

The Walker administration is showing us how to run government like a business.

Or at least, how THEY think businesses are run.

Or maybe how the businesses that they came from were run.

Or...
