Sure, but it might be worth it in an attempt to derail an entire campaign. If the report is not shown to be false until after the election, then the damage was already done. Even if the falsity is uncovered before the election, there is no guarantee that everyone who heard the first story will hear the correction.

What I don't get is why anyone would worry about Chad Lee's less-than-a-snowballs-chance-in-hell of winning?

Pocan should make an official statement since this involves allegations against his husband.

Ah, the old Lyndon Johnson approach.

I am so proud of our system of government, of our free enterprise, where our incentive system and our men who head our big industries are willing to get up at daylight and work until midnight to offer employment and create new jobs for people, where our men working there will try to get decent wages but will sit across the table and not act like cannibals, but will negotiate and reason things out together.

No, people do it all the time. It's a Class A misdemeanor called Obstructing A Peace Officer, SS 946.41(1), punishable by a fine not to exceed $10,000 or imprisonment not to exceed 9 months, or both.

Not that I've ever heard of someone even getting close to those maximums.

Channel 3 just said that the "victim" has recanted his story and that Madison PD considers the allegations "unfounded." Stay tuned!

Ask and ye shall receive, just not in the way you had hoped.

Earlier Monday afternoon, a spokesman for Rep. Mark Pocan and an attorney representing his partner, Philip Frank, said they were considering suing for libel over claims that Frank threatened Wood.

Is it still a hate crime? Wasn't the "real" victim targeted for being gay, a Democrat or both?

And when can we consider this confirmed? Do we have to wait for Stu or can Meade do the honors?

From Moderate Meades "moderate" link.

Media Trackers is continuing to follow developments in this story, but due to the ongoing criminal investigation we have chosen to remove the allegations raised by both sides from our website. All information has been given to law enforcement authorities. As information becomes available, we will stay abreast of the case.

Huh? Looks like someone other than Pocan chose to make a statement.
