Biodigester in city budget

Postby Athena » Fri Nov 09, 2012 7:10 pm

I'm in the pilot Household Organic Waste program and I love it. I throw away so little now. Even kleenex and dog poop can go in the bin along with the moldy bread. But the new city budget amendment takes away the money for the biodigester study. We need this study to continue the program which will divert a lot of waste from the landfill. In the end this study will actually save the city money. It should be done now while the pilot program has such good participation and there are several new places that are supposed to be added next year (restaurants and commercial businesses).

I agree. Better to spend it on biodigesters than music festivals.

For whatever it is worth, I am squarely on the side of this innovation. The engineering, biofermentation, economic skills, etc... are MORE than met by this community. This ain't going to be another Solyndra. Too local, too much accountability, too much promise for us not to endeavor for some small success. The thing is if we make a habit of encouraging things that make sense for us we might just find prosperity in the equation.

The fudning for the next phase of the anaerobic digester project was put back in the budget so the project will go forward.

Thanks, this is a very interesting project and the potential disruptive enough to attract a subtle beat down. How do we keep appraised of our collective investment? Will we know when some shoulders are required to push through inevitable rough spots?
