Ed Hughes compares Cheatham to Alvarez

I really appreciate it when Madison school board member Ed Hughes blogs. But I wonder who he's writing for when he writes stuff like...

Like Cheatham, Alvarez was an outsider, a rising star in a major program who was ready to take the reins of his own program and run with it. That certainly did not guarantee success, but he proved to have that rare and ineluctable something that inspired his players to raise their game, that drove them to succeed as a team because they couldn’t bear to let their coach or teammates down.

As with Barry, so with Jen.

Not exactly an "old adage." From a very important 1964 Supreme Court decision, Justice Stewart's concurrence in Jacobellis v. Ohio: "I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description ("hard-core pornography"); and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it, and the motion picture involved in this case is not that."

Not so much that as an utterly hollow analogy. Comparing MMSD to the UW Football program?

Hmmm ... let's see one has a budget and its key players are revered as local heroes. The other is broke but for bake sales and supplies purchased by it's underpaid teachers who are largely reviled by voucher vultures, various other right-wing morons, many parents and even some school board members allegedly "on the same team."

But as long as every freakin' thing has to be compared to sports, here's another take for ya:

For the last forty years or so (maybe longer) MMSD's supe has almost always been an outsider.
