For Sale: Wisconsin.

What a surprise.

MADISON — A broad array of state properties, including prisons, university dormitories, power plants and highways, could be sold to private buyers without going through a public bidding process, under a provision approved by the Legislature's budget committee on Tuesday.

The Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee went along with Gov. Scott Walker's original call to allow for the sale of the properties, but added a couple significant restrictions. No sale could go through without approval of the committee, and state-owned property funded with at least 50 percent federal funds or gifts or grants could not be sold.

When you hear that a state property has had its funding cut to less than half, blow it a kiss it goodby.

But don't worry. "there are no plans to sell any property that provides a public service like a campus dorm, a state highway or the prison system."

Yet.

And they'd need the approval of a Republican committee to do it, so we're good there.

Gov. Walker is already bought and paid for. Might as well sell the rest of the state.

Worked so great for Arizona that they want to buy their capitol back after selling it off two years ago:

How about Maple Bluff?
Sen. Bob Wirch, D-Pleasant Prairie, suggested the state start with a sale of the governor’s mansion, officially known as the Executive Residence. Wirch said he figures the Maple Bluff mansion could raise $2.5 million to help pay off state debt. It was rejected on a 15-1 vote.
