Well lets look at this article:

http://m.host.madison.com/wsj/news/loca ... ac307.html

In the Madison area, St. James Catholic School, which hosted a sparsely attended voucher informational event in March, is still considering joining, principal Sister Kathleen Loughrin said.
But several of the larger schools, including Abundant Life Christian School, St. Dennis Catholic School and Peace Lutheran, don’t plan to participate next year...

Michael Lancaster, superintendent of Madison Diocese schools...

But some schools, like St. Joseph Catholic School in Dodgeville...

Rock County Christian Schools in Janesville and Beloit are planning to participate...

St. John’s Catholic School in Spring Green does not plan to participate next year...

See a trend in this article. It may be sloppy reporting, but every school named or quoted is religious. I'm so glad my tax dollars will now go to fund religion.

I'm tempted to start a Muslim school to take vouchers just to piss off the right-wing Christians.

Ahem:

WATSON — Rep. Valarie Hodges, R-Watson, says she had no idea that Gov. Bobby Jindal’s overhaul of the state’s educational system might mean taxpayer support of Muslim schools.

“I actually support funding for teaching the fundamentals of America’s Founding Fathers’ religion, which is Christianity, in public schools or private schools,” the District 64 Representative said Monday.

“I liked the idea of giving parents the option of sending their children to a public school or a Christian school,” Hodges said.

Hodges mistakenly assumed that “religious” meant “Christian.”

HB976, now signed into law as Act 2, proposed, among other things, a voucher program allowing state educational funds to be used to send students to schools run by religious groups.

A teacher colleague of mine retired some years past and attending his retirement party was his neighbor, then Wisconsin Attorney General Jim Doyle. This was at the time that Tommy Thompson first introduced school vouchers in the Milwaukee area. I asked Doyle if he would oppose that move on separation of church and state grounds. He said that once a Muslim school applied for eligibility, the program would not get off the ground. He guessed wrong.

Have any Muslim schools applied for eligibility in Wisconsin?

Yes.

Currently one Islamic school, Assalam School in Milwaukee, takes part in the voucher program...

Slightly embarassed I didn't know about that school at all.

I have to say, I'm glad that Doyle was wrong and that there wasn't a huge outcry against it.

I was disappointed that Doyle, as AG, didn't fight the voucher program back then on First Amendment grounds. But the subsequent Supreme Court ruling, allowing taxpayer money to pay for religious education, makes that point moot.

Unlike Louisiana, when a R legislator found out that Muslim schools could apply for school vouchers she immediately wanted her vote back and was against vouchers.

Not only Louisiana.

Tennessee Republicans freak out that voucher plan might fund Muslim schools

If you really want to make them soil themselves, I suggest:

"Charles Darwin Secular Charter Academy."

Scott Walker: Future voucher expansion should be based on student performance

Gov. Scott Walker said Wednesday future expansion of a new statewide voucher program should be based on whether voucher students perform as well as or better than they did in public school.

I'd like to see students, in private voucher schools that teach creationism instead of evolution, tested in biology and geography.
