Oh hooray, another Walgreens

What are the things that puzzle, enrage, delight and tickle you as you go about your life in Madison?

Oh hooray, another Walgreens

Postby cattyr » Thu Mar 30, 2006 3:48 pm

What the hell is up with Walgreens going in at the corner of Branch & University in Middleton? You can practically spit on the one in the shopping center from there. Is the older one relocating? Anyone?

Older one is closing up shop. No word yet on who will take its place in that minimall. The new Walgreens will be larger than the current one, FWIW.

Wlagreen's wants their own stand-alone stores and not have to pay rent.

I guess I am naive, but, what's wrong with Walgreens?

There's nothing wrong with Walgreens. Remember the pre-Walgreens days when drug stores closed at five and weren't open on Sunday? No fun if you were sick.

I haven't liked Walgreen's since they moved out of Hilldale Shopping Center. Of course they had a right to do that, I just didn't like it.

Walgreen's are very convenient but unfortunately named. Most of us do a split-second cringe when we hear "wal" thinking that "mart" is next.

Holy crap, Flanders!
How frickin' old are you?

Walgreens already had well over 500 stores by 1930!!!!
(That number wouldn't be doubled until 1984!!!)

I love Walgreens. The section that has products that are sold on TV infomercials is my favorite part. Walgreens rules! I am a big fan of Ace Hardware Stores too. Sometimes when I am bored and tired of bookstores I just wander around places like Walgreens and Ace Hardware. Manards is not too bad either and of course Farm n Fleet also rocks! When I am done browsing I'll go get a root beer float at Michaels Frozen Custard. A perfect day of fun for harrissimo.

Walgreens didn't come to Madison until 1980, when they bought out the local Rennebohm Drug Store chain.

I love that Walgreens snapped up all the Wal- names before Wal-Mart thought of it. I wouldn't last a week without Wal-profen and Wal-itin.
