Which Phonebook do you use?

Postby Dulouz » Tue Jul 11, 2006 12:04 pm

Every year seems to bring another phone book. . . .I tend to throw them into the recycling bin right away--I keep one for the house.

It is bad enough to get these things dumped on the doorstep, but now they are advertising as well.

Phone books are a waste. I bet that's an industry that's really taking a hit, yellow page advertising.

Except, it doesn't seem like it actually is hurting, since there's a proliferation of phone books. It was probably a hugely lucrative business when there was one phone book per region.

Now, even though it would seem like there's an end in sight for this kind of business, all kind of competitors are fighting for the last lumps of all those fat profits, like sharks chumming on the carcass of a dead cow.

I like the little barbie-doll size one that comes along with the regular size ones. I put it in the car so if I want to make some business call while I'm away from home I can look up the number.

Internet is still not quite caught up to the SBC/AT&T phone book for ease of use, unless I don't know of a really great site. And the SBC/AT&T official site is annoying. But I'll take any internet site over that POS yellow book.

The only good thing about the Yellow Book is its coupon section. High Noon Saloon, the Brass Ring and Gaston's are among the offerings.

Me, too! It's come in handy many times.

And thanks for the tip on the coupons, Henry - I never noticed those before.

I like miniatures, so last year I thought I'd try that cute little copy. I got so tired of squinting at that thing, I returned to the full size, this year.

Whichever small one they drop at my door. If one comes three months later I take that and replace the last one with it - no big ones, too cumbersome. I use the internet at work.

The SBC one is the only one worth using. The "yellow book" is essentially a hefty, incomplete advetising circular. Not that SBC isn't overfestooned with ridiculous coupons, but the yellow book is trash.
