Sundance 608: impressive

Two bars, a restaurant, very nicely designed interior and plans for WiFi lounges, coffee, etc. Plus, Sundance walks the walk on supporting local causes and artists.

See the post for interior photos.

Are they trying to make the west side cool or something?

This should be great, it's about the same distance as Star Cinema from my house but is likely to get more of my $.

I seriously hope this place goes more the Westgate route than the old Hilldale format. With a couple of exceptions there was never anything playing I could muster up any excitement over. What good is having a movie theater within walking distance if all they're showing are snoozefests?

No question they'll be reelin' in more dough with cash bars n all that jive!

Can't wait for the 64 oz. Super Sized Vodka Tonics!

Not sure I buy into this "rough elegance" with a river running through (contrived will be an understatement in my guess), but we'll see...

I saw more good movies at hilldale than westgate in the later years.

I love assigned seating and reclining chairs in movie theaters. Experienced that in LA and have been pining ever since.

"Rough elegance" - that's funny. I'll have to stop at REI and pick out my threads for opening night.

Try the Quentin Taran-tini. It's overrated top shelf vodka shaken and served with a dash of smugness.

The Hilldale Theater was used at least a few years as a WFF venue.

This article on The Daily Page implies Sundance Cinema management will be interested in hosting future WFF screenings, though the facility won't be completed in time for the 2007 fest:

i went to a few last year there. It's nice because parking is easier, at least last year it was, that's partially why I chose the movies there.

Jason, not a big deal but some of your text is missing in the slide show, I think on #s 6 and 7. Or at least it appeared that way from my PC.

Rooftop bar? Like a summertime-only thing?

Sounds like a nice addition to Madison. I'm looking forward to the opening. I really hope the market can support Sundance 608.

So do I. I hope I'm wrong about this, but the ambitious scope of the thing makes me feel a little uneasy about its chances for success.

As someone who's never been to a theater with assigned seating, tell me, how does it work? Is there price differentials between the 'good seats' and the 'bad seats'? Will Sundance 608 use assigned seating only on weekends or premiers or all the time? What if there aren't many people in the theater?

the reasons i do not go out to see movies that often (1 every two or three months)

65% shitty movie selection
30% cost for a night of entertainment
5% i'm really lazy

i assume that sundance will be extremely expensive for a movie, probably over $12 a ticket. but combine that with the far improved movie selection at sundance and it will probably equal out and i won't go see movies any more frequently. but i'll probably see better movies. so... hooray!

ps i love market square
