ALRC denies Fleming new liquor license for Orpheum
The Madison Alcohol License Review Committee on Wednesday unanimously rejected a request for a new license from one of the Orpheum Theatre’s co-owners, Eric Fleming, and his girlfriend, Olesya Kuzmenko.

The Orpheum lost its alcohol license because it was operating without a valid state seller’s permit. Fleming since validated that permit, but Ald. Mike Verveer, 4th District, said the committee voted against the new license over concerns about who would manage the Orpheum.

Fleming has a "plan":

Orpheum operator not sweating rejection of liquor license
One week after the city’s Alcohol License Review Committee again rejected a liquor license for the Orpheum Theatre, the man who’s in charge of operations there says he’s not worried.

“Our attorneys are working with the city and trying to figure out how to move forward,” says Eric Fleming, who had owned half the Orpheum before selling 99 percent of his share to his girlfriend, Olesya Kuzmenko. Creditors have been dogging Fleming, and his detractors say he sold his share of the storied movie palace to Kuzmenko, along with most of his other assets, so he can avoid paying off his considerable debts.
...
Without a liquor license, even catered private events can’t have a cash bar. But wedding parties can bring in their own booze.

During public events, like concerts -- and Fleming says he has about nine lined up -- there can be no liquor sales. But he says he has a plan.

“I’m not going to describe what we’re trying to do, but they’ll all be legal,” he tells me.

Or maybe not...
The woes continue for the Orpheum Theatre.

The Head and the Heart concert originally scheduled to take place at the iconic downtown venue, which has been at the center of ongoing litigation between co-owners Henry Doane and Eric Fleming, has now been moved across the street to the Capitol Theater at the Overture Center.

The location change, which was made because the Orpheum lacks a liquor license, means there are currently no concerts scheduled to take place at the venue in the foreseeable future.

Looks like the Orpheum is going into receivership.
