NY Post compares Obama to "euthanized" chimp

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

Thinking about this some more, I could almost see the cartoonist in a frame of mind where he was struggling to link the stimulus bill to the recent chimp attack in a misguided attempt at being witty and topical. Maybe he didn't consider Obama as the bill's author, and never considered the race angle.

Maybe. But boy, that's tortured.

At the very least, there had to be an editor or two that would realize the implications of what was pictured. So either they're blatantly racist, or they're blatantly stupid. Of course, we're talking about the Post here, so maybe both.

Really, is this how you folks hand our asses to us. Nice company to keep.

Whatever the intent of the cartoon was, crap like that triggers nutcases to act out.

The political discourse bar was permanently lowered when Rush Limbaugh took to the national airwaves in the late 80's.

The fact that he is today considered the major trendsetter and mouthpiece for the far Right, despite his long, storied history of half-truths, outright lies, racism, misogyny, and hypocrisy, speaks for itself.

It also speaks to the incredible ignorance of his "fans" that believe he's got a shred of credibility on any issue.

I agree 100% that Rush did lower the bar considerably. What i think was different in the Bush years is the amount of elected officials that started spewing the same type of crap that Rush the radio host-entertainer is famous for. I personally dont give a rats ass what a radio host says but i do hold elected officials to a higher standard.

I think many of the things you accuse Rush of are also applicable to John Nichols.(i personally find both of them lacking in credibility quite often)

How many people listen to Rush? How many people voted Repub in the last Prez election?(not me)

How is killing a violent chimpanzee analogous to reviving the economy?

However, I did hear an analogy today that is apropos; "Republicans criticizing the stimulus package is like geese criticizing the evacuation of US Airways flight 1549"

Outrage Over Documentary on Bush Assassination
Filmmaker Says He Wants to Spark Debate About White House Policies

On eve of the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Toronto Film Festival will debut a British movie depicting the fictional assassination of President George W. Bush.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=2385758&page=1

"Comparing Bush and his family to the Corleones of "Godfather" fame, Air America host Randi Rhodes reportedly unleashed this zinger during her Monday night broadcast: "Like Fredo, somebody ought to take him out fishing and phuw. "

Rhodes then imitated the sound of a gunshot.

"During his speech at Friday night's Kentucky Democratic Party fundraiser, Gov. Steve Beshear unleashed what may have been the quote of the event thus far. Suggesting Democrats were better problem solvers than Republicans, Beshear allowed the following:

"I can think of only one Republcan who can be a problem solver and that is Vice President Cheney, if he would just take George on a hunting trip," Beshear said"

"I give thanks O Lord for Dick Cheney's Heart, that brave organ which has done its darn-tootin' best on four separate occasions to do what we can only dream about.

O Lord, give Dick Cheney's Heart, Our Sacred Secret Weapon, the strength to try one more time! For greater love hath no heart than that it lay down its life to rid the planet of its Number One Human Tumor."

I found this in five minutes. Do you need more? Now STFU.

I don't recall any forons ever defending any of these incidents. You could prove me wrong and post a link to a foron post doing so. But way to keep it classy Flanders and defend the hardcore neo-con racism this cartoon depicts.

In case you weren't paying attention, this is exactly the type of divisive hyper-partisanship that was rejected in the past two elections. But keep it up, I'm looking forward to that filibuster-proof Senate in two years. After 2010, the Republican mantra will be, "at least we still have Mississippi".

We're sorry; the cartoon isn't racist.

In this morning's edition, the Post begins the backpedaling in earnest, offering a contrite-yet-belligerent half-apology, half-denial.

It gets worse, Ned.

Out on the Left Coast they're trying to claim there's some sort of stereotype about black people and watermelon:

Ned, you're absolutely right on this one. If the liberal media can make jokes about Cheney's heart disease and bad aim, and some Canadian lefties can make movies about Bush's assassination, then why god, why, can't we compare Obama to a monkey?

Democrats and their socialist liberal media friends definitely started all of this mean name-calling in the first place. Before them, Rush was a cuddly teddy bear who would have shared his ice cream cone with Ted Kennedy. And before these foul-mouthed lefties started bullying Bush, Ann Coulter was a friendly grandmotherly type who used to bake cookies for Chelsea Clinton and her friends.

As always, the infallibility of Ned's ideas have been lost on all of you liberal idiots.

Can't wait to hear your Ted Haggard jokes.

But, but - they started it. We started, he started it, she started it - who cares? Call enough, enough - and stop paying attention to this crap. When we engage in this kind of ridiculous back-and-forth we just give it an importance it shouldn't have.

Hey, how about that (projected) 1.75 trillion dollar deficit?

Oh, never mind - Ann Coulter is a bitch. She is an idiot. I hate her. So is Rush. So is Chris Matthews. So is Keith Olbermann. You said they were bad before I did.

It's a good thing we have good folks like you who can read the title of a thread, determine the topic has no real value, and then proceed to enter the thread and self-righteously declare the topic is un-important. Let me ask you this; do you make a habit of trolling the internet looking for forum topics you don't like in order to let everyone there know that you don't like the topic. Find a more productive hobby, buddy.

I humbly beg your forgiveness.

The chimp in the cartoon was just a topical reference to the woman-attacking chimp in the news that week. Obviously, no question about it.

The chimp is a symbol for a generic monster, a metaphor for the stimulus package. They are taking aim at congress.

The people who have issues are those who linked the chimp to Obama in their minds. I realize that blacks were compared to apes earlier in the 20th century, but to suggest that the cartoon was making that link is truly a bizarre, hyper-sensitive connection. I suggest therapy.

If the out-of-control stimulus package metaphor was a drunken sailor, would people have jumped to the conclusion that it was a slur against Obama's Irish secretary of the treasury?

Thanks for clearing that up, Ms. Goodall.

By the way, who's paying you the enormous sum you must command to speak on behalf of humanity like this?

I suggest therapy.

Why anyone would heed your suggestion, which has clearly failed your ass, is anyone's guess.

I suggest you go flush your head.
