If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

Where is the science supporting the 'do nothing' approach?

No. It is making a choice based on science, rather than consensus.

So you're saying choosing to do nothing is making a choice based on science. Got any science?

Aha. You're trying to say that all those scientists haven't done any science yet.

I hope you're augmenting your retirement with science, since you know so much more about it than those science guys.

No I said it was a choice. I DID NOT say it was based on science. Please pay attention.

You said:

I'm sorry, that sure looks like you DID say it was based on science.

I (and DCB I'm sure) accept the apology.

So, what's the science upon which the choice is based?

Sorry, I should have recapped for you.

DCB said
"Choosing to do nothing is making a choice: its choosing to believe the marginal few instead of the overwhelming majority of scientists."
Then you said:
"No. It is making a choice based on science, rather than consensus."

Then we all went back and forth about whether you said
"No. It is making a choice based on science, rather than consensus."

Now, I believe we are at the point where you agree that you did indeed say
"No. It is making a choice based on science, rather than consensus."

Now that we all agree you said
"It is making a choice based on science"

And that "it" is "Choosing to do nothing."

So. My question is:
What is the science upon which the choice to do nothing is based?

Let me know if it needs to be explained further.

I apologize to everybody for carrying this out to the extreme but I believe it exemplifies the difficulty we're all having. We keep assuming that just because the words are out there for everyone to see that everyone is interpreting them the same. It is plain from this one little sidenote that this is not the case.

"No. It is making a choice based on science, rather than consensus."

Until science shows us what if anything can be done to control global temperatures, it is wise to chose nothing. Doing something that has an unknown ( at best ) outcome to simply feel good about it makes no sense to me. Especially when you consider the cost of many of the proposals. I.E. carbon tax.

Well I'll be damned. We have gone from "it is ludicrous to think that mankind has the ability to affect the global climate" to "Let's make sure we know exactly what we ought to do to before we begin to combat this change to our global climate that we recognize as real and in progress."

The only detail left to disagree on is whether humans caused it, I think.

Oh no, wait. There's the "we don't know if it will be bad yet" gambit. I forgot about that.
