Sock puppets are big business

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

Sock puppets are big business

Postby snoqueen » Tue Mar 29, 2011 10:40 pm

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/02/16/945768/-

This article is not succinct and it's not brand new, but it's also no surprise considering the occasional troll raids we see not only here, but all over the internet. Turns out there are entire businesses dedicated to creating this type of fakery.

A quote:

... for a defense contractor with ties to the federal government, Hunton & Williams, DOD, NSA, and the CIA - whose enemies are labor unions, progressive organizations, journalists, and progressive bloggers, a persona apparently goes far beyond creating a mere sockpuppet.

... it involves creating an army of sockpuppets, with sophisticated "persona management" software that allows a small team of only a few people to appear to be many...

Geez, who would ever guess.

i hope u are being facetious...
i've known since back in the uucp days when the new 110 and 134½, baud modems were all the rage too that sock puppet hunters are either very unskilled and/or easy-to-unhinge debaters particularly fond of the straw-grasping technique or sort of the cyber equivalent of birthers (i suppose they can be both), but the article the link pointed to is more like black helicopter and genocide-by-sterilisation-by-consumer-products stuff...

trollophobia is even worse...

If you count Jason it's three, but I thought that was fairly well known. By the way, am I you or are you me?

It's common knowledge that Herr Axelrod pioneered the astroturfing process.

You you have him to thank for much of this.

I don't even know what planet this guy lives on anymore. I think Ned's just becoming a parody of himself.

Sweet. Its only 7:30 am and I've already reached 100% of my daily dose of comparing Obama to Nazis. Thanks, Hammy.

This is what happens when one button eye falls off and the stitched mouth starts to unravel.
