What's the "grave moral wrong" of birth control?

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

What's the "grave moral wrong" of birth control?

Postby jjoyce » Mon Mar 05, 2012 11:39 am

Is it, as Rush Limbaugh insists, encouraging people to have sex (presumably the same way high blood pressure meds encourage people to eat more onion rings)?

Or is it -- as I imagine Rick Santorum was thinking when he used that term -- the notion of killing a human being whose life began at conception?

It's that every sperm is sacred.

The council for Delaware's largest city passed a resolution by an 8-4 vote Thursday calling on the Delaware legislature, other state legislatures and the U.S. Congress to pass laws granting "personhood" rights to eggs and sperm. The resolution was authored by councilwoman Loretta Walsh as a protest in the current battle over women's health care access.

What's the "grave moral wrong" of birth control?

How do you define "birth control", Jason? Does abortion qualify as birth control? How about late-term abortion? (You can google "late term abortion" and watch a video of one if you don't know what that is.)

Jason probably defines it the seam way all non-disingenuous douchebags do. Contraception.

Does abortion qualify as birth control?

No. You're stupid for asking if it does.

How about late-term abortion?

See above.

It's neither contraception or late-term abortion. Does that help?

And by "you're", I suppose you mean "Wikipedia":
Birth control is an umbrella term for several techniques and methods used to prevent fertilization or to interrupt pregnancy at various stages. Birth control techniques and methods include contraception (the prevention of fertilization), contragestion (the prevention of the implantation of the blastocyst) and abortion (the removal or expulsion of a fetus or embryo from the uterus).

No I clearly meant you. Do you have anything to add that isn't an off-topic distraction? Are YOU morally opposed to contraception? What's Mrs. Althouse's medical history on the subject?

According to prolifers, birth control qualifies as abortion.

The question is: What is the grave moral wrong of birth control. I'll leave it up to JJoyce to change his terms if that's what he wants to do here.

Unable to process the meaning behind words huh? That sucks. I read the OP and understood that clearly Jjoyce is in no way talking about abortion. I'm pretty sure most everyone else understood that too. You clearly and honestly didn't understand. You certainly wouldn't try to derail or avoid the arguments by intentionally misinterpreting this to mean late-term abortion.

So maybe if we rephrase the question you would have a relevant answer?

Abortion aside -- and I think most people don't think of abortion when they think of birth control -- doesn't the Roman Catholic church consider contraception a wrong because it thinks sex is only supposed to be procreative? I.e., every sperm is sacred?

Qualifies or causes? If you read the article you linked to, and if you understood it, you would have to be lying to say "qualifies".

Perhaps you didn't read it.
