Science Teacher Fired After Students Find Her In Porn Vids

Wish my science teacher looked like her!

An Oxnard teacher fired for allegedly appearing in a pornographic movie is fighting to ger her job back.

Stacie Halas, 31, a science teacher at Richard B. Haydock Intermediate School, was placed on leave last month while the Oxnard Unified School District investigated the allegations. The school board met Wednesday to discuss the case and voted unanimously to fire Halas.

"We disagree with the decision by the board to dismiss or seek the dismissal of Miss Halas. It is our intention at this time to vigorously contest the charges," her attorney, Richard Schwab, told the Ventura County Star.

The investigation began when students approached administrators at the school and told them they had seen a female teacher in a pornographic video.

Halas allegedly was cast in the movie under the name Tiffany. Administrators tried to verify the students' claims but couldn't because filters on the school's computers prevent access to pornographic websites.

There is good news if she doesn't get to keep her job...

She always has her back to fall back on.

So apparently 7th and 8th graders performed better due diligence than the Oxnard school district.

What seems to be missing is the punishment the student received for viewing porn under age at school, or the punishment her co-workers received for surfing for porn on their mobile devices during work hours.

Seems pretty simple though, she's 32 and has been teaching for 3 years. Either the school district utterly failed to ask what she was doing with herself as a career for the 11 years before she became a teacher, or she lied. If she lied, the termination seems fair. If she wasn't asked, or was asked and declined to answer then I'm guessing the Oxnard School district will be giving her a lot of money.

Realistically the board is right that her presence in a class room at this point (especially a junior high class room) would be an manageable situation. Best case for Halas is finding a web based school to work for for a few years.

You think school districts should be doing porn searches before hiring teachers? How would that work, exactly? The students must have stumbled on these by coincidence. Nobody uses their real names when making pornography and searching from a photo is nearly impossible.

From the article: "...filters on the school's computers prevent access to pornographic websites." They did this on their own time, which means it's not really the school's business. When I was in 8th grade (over 25 years ago) I had certainly been exposed to pornography. I have to imagine it's even more prevalent today, given its online ubiquity. I got "the talk" from my parents, not the school, as it should be.

What are you talking about? You sure do make a lot of unfounded (and bizarre) assumptions.

You think making amateur internet porn is a career?
What planet are you from?

No but they should be asking about the work history of their potential employees. Simple question "Have you done anything in the past that might interfere with your ability to serve as a teacher?"

This comment was made in jest. Though I'll point out, 1) kids have mobile devices that don't need the school network and 2) I didn't say the school was necessarily the one who should be punishing the kid 3) How exactly do you know the kid found the video on his or her own time? Seems like you are making an unfounded assumptions there Prof.

You miss the part of the article where other teachers showed the administrator the video on their phone? Maybe i'm wrong in assuming this happened at work rather than in a bar after school. Anyway this was in humor as well, so w/e

Perhaps I should have stated "what other jobs she has held since becoming an adult. Based on her lawyers comments, and the news portion of the second link in the OP, she didn't just have one video out there on the net and she did make money doing it, so I'm pretty sure amateur doesn't apply. I could be wrong though. My knowledge of the porn industry is indeed amateur, so please feel free to enlighten me. :D

I won't belabor any of the points you made "in jest" (even if the supposed humor of your comments completely escapes me).

You're being goofy.
If just getting paid for something makes it a job or a career then I've been a professional landscaper, car washer, pet-sitter, baby-sitter, gambler, mover, clinical test subject, driver, pamphleteer... I could go on.

I don't have a problem with the school board deciding her presence would be disruptive and letting her go, but I don't see this as any kind of epidemic which needs to be addressed with additional scrutiny during the hiring phase.

Of course I'm being goofy; the whole topic is goofy.

You really think some kid was surfing the net while mom and dad were out of the house, saw his science teacher in a porn, and thought: "OMG, I have to tell someone in authority"? Of course not, but he had to tell his friends I'll bet. My guess is one of them just got a D in science.

So being 7th or 8th graders the secret was closely held</sarcasm>, until Mr. "I don't get the periodic table" decided to get even and told an administrator. Said administrator couldn't prove it but decided to squash the rumor by telling the whole staff that it was just a rumor. But then was corrected by another teacher who already knew the link and showed it to the administrator on his smartphone.

I don't either tbh, but then I also don't pay taxes in the Oxnard school district, where I'd be shocked if this teacher didn't receive a nice settlement for the way this was handled by administration.

This is Oxnard we're talking about. Who isn't making internet porn there?

So.... she's been fired? For having sex as a profession?

Does this mean because I am a housewife I am unfit to teach?

Seriously, I hope she sues and wins. I see no reason why, even if she has been ridden more than my trail pony, she is unfit to teach. It's 2012, folks. Having sex no longer makes a woman soiled or filthy.

Are the parents of the kids that found her being relieved of their parenting duties? Because really, if their kids are able to search the net for porn to the extent that ran across their teacher, the parents are the ones most likely to cause harm to the kids.

I heartily agree - if your kid is looking at porn sites, it's not the teacher that's the problem. If you can make more money in a porn flick than you can as a teacher, AND if you get more interest and respect from the males on this forum as a porn actress than you would as a teacher, you are not the problem.

Then there's the fact that the media is even covering this.......

Hot for teacher, indeed.

This reminds me of the day my high school senior came home all giddy about the alumna of his school who had made it in the porn industry. It was a classic story: one of his classmates had an older brother, and the older brother was watching some skin flick in college when, lo and behold, there was a former classmate of his! When he told his younger brother, the word got out around the school (text messaging meant by day's end everybody knew). They had a good laugh over it, and by week's end, Red Letter News had sold out of their DVD copies:) Ah to be a Purgolder!
