The gun thread

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

Of course, there are already thousands of laws pertaining to guns as we speak. Additionally, it's illegal to shoot and/or murder someone.

You already need to register to buy weapons.

Criminals don't follow laws.

"Prohibition" creates black markets.

Obama, his children and entire crew are protected by people with fully automatic weapons. Next to impossible to obtain by the general public.

How does regulation equal prohibition? See alcohol.

There are alrady more than enough laws and regulations pertaining to firearms. They work wonders in Chicago, NYC and LA, right? 500 murders in Chicago in 2012....

Unfortunatley, crazy will find a way. You do know that the worst school massacre in U.S. history was a bombing...

Why are you opposed to background checks for sales at gun shows?

I'll ignore the low-hanging fruit here and concur.

It's important for our country to talk about guns, because it's clear that we have a bigger problem with them then just about any other country. But I fail to see how laws -- even reasonable ones (which most of those proposed generally are) -- are the solution. I don't find any of the pro-gun, NRA, "patriot" arguments convincing in the least, but that doesn't mean I think bans, laws, or amendments are the solution, either.

It's important for our country to talk about guns...

Just not on TDPF.

But if you do, ensure all discussion is restricted to one, predetermined thread.

'Cuz gun talk is irrelevant.

or something

I gotta admit, in a lot of ways we're beginning to look a lot more like those countries than we used to.

Oh wait. We have more stringent searches at our airports and better restaurants. No, nothing like those other countries.

There's certainly no "gun problem" in Cuba, North Korea or China now, is there? Perfectly "safe" societies! And the great healthcare!

But I digress...certainly the "Fast and Furious" Mexican gun distribtution program "mastermided" by BHO and his lapdog Holder have made the problem there worse. Of course, it would be unseemly for the LSM to cover such an administration embarassment.

Yes, and one would be hard put to find photos of Americans standing around piles of guns.

Yes, we should argue about my poor word choice (I should have said "first world countries", I suppose... or "civilized" in the parlance of Real Mericans), and not anything important.
Good call, fellas.

Why don't you cover it for us, Ned? You seem to have some facts at your fingertips that the rest of us would like to know.

For instance, did the federal government sell guns to straw purchasers during the "Fast and Furious" program?

How exactly did Obama and Holder mastermind the program?

There is actually a lot of information about this program available from reliable sources and none of it seems to corroborate your version.

I guess it's progress when Ned doesn't use a cutesy name to refer to his President.
This immediately came to mind when I saw his post:
Republicans Accuse Obama Of Using Position As President To Lead Country

That is supposed to be humorous. This (I think) is supposed to be serious:
“I’m against having a king,” Paul, the son of libertarian icon Ron Paul, told Christian Broadcasting News while traveling in Israel. “I think having a monarch is what we fought the American Revolution over and someone who wants to bypass the Constitution, bypass Congress — that’s someone who wants to act like a king or a monarch.”

I mean, its not like the Constitution gives the President any authority.

Suggesting that gun violence in America isn't all that bad because MEXICO COLOMBIA PAKISTAN!!!!11 is like suggesting that Abu Ghraib was no big deal because Saddam Hussein was a bad guy too.

When you're comparing your country to the worst of the worst, maybe it's a sign you need to reorient your priorities.

Here is an interactive map that does a good break down of gun ownership, homicide rate, and % of murder by firearm. U.S. ranks up there and I'm not saying that's OK. What I am saying is based on how many guns are owned, murders with guns are not that high.
