North Carolina and gays

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

North Carolina and gays

Postby Henry Vilas » Sat May 26, 2012 11:58 am

First the citizens of North Carolina vote down gay marriage. Now this, as Baptist ministers come up with their own take on gays and lesbians.

“I figured a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers,” he says.

“Build a great, big, large fence — 150- or 100-mile long — put all the lesbians in there . . . do the same thing for the queers and the homosexuals, and have that fence electrified so they can’t get out.

“Feed ’em, and you know what?” Worley continues. “In a few years they’ll die. Do you know why? They can’t reproduce.”

why dwell on psychotic fringe?

I suppose it is a good story that helps the cause, but I find the extremes uninteresting. The action is what happens in the battleground areas like Colorardo or New Jersey.

Have you spent your entire life in Madison and its environs? Why? Because their ideology speaks to way too many Americans. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

Not only is Worley's statement morally objectionable, it is also demonstrably stupid.

Straight parents will presumably continue to produce gay offspring. Where does he think gay people come from, storks?

What an idiot.

The kooks don't need to be exposed for their own effects. The people who respond to the kookery are beyond persuasion.

Lets be honest: the advantage of publicizing the extreme creeps is to make it more uncomfortable for more reasonable people to continue to be against gay marriage. Guilt by association.

You may think it is impossible for a reasonable person to oppose gay marriage. In fact, we've been down that road, and will have to agree to disagree and be disagreeable.

I share your goals, am just bristling a bit.

I just have the impression that there is a great convergence underway in favor of gay marriage. Most of the people in opposition are evolving, as Barack pretended to be. Maybe exposing the kooks gives a slight nudge to the wavering. The South is going to decade decades, though.

I think the final few seconds of the video are most informative. He says, "can you imagine kissing some guy?" <Awkward pause>

Reverend, I think you just did.

Religious people are always spouting stupid shit like that.

There are even some that will tell you that you're in for eternal damnation (whether you are gay or straight) if you don't accept some long hair as your savior.

I'm with you Henry - fuck them all.

a lot of christian sects, including conservative ones, are coming around to accepting gay marriage.

Let the other side make it an "us versus them" fight.

great thinkers can not be constrained by laws of punctuation. would you have Picasso straighten all those crooked noses? Should Einstein have dedicated more time to personal grooming?
