"Bully" is the new "Racist"

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

As a commentator on that blog said, her message is "Scream bully and the world is your oyster".

That guy who sent the email was asking for it. Everything would be okay if only he'd quit making her do things like that. Why does he always do something to set her off?

So you really think a weather person making a statement on a small Wisconsin town tv station thought she was going to get national attention because of it?

I disagree with the whole "Ignore and they go away" philosophy.

It puts the onus on victims and bystanders instead of the asshole. It's also a nice justification for turning your shoulder away to evil.

I've had the privilege of living long enough, and living in a small intimate town, to see children grow from toddlers to high schoolers- along with knowing their parents.

My honest opinion is, indeed, that kids learn the asshole behaviors from their parents, and that a lot of bullies are resenting to kids having something they don't. It can be something from clothes to an intact family, but jealousy appears to me to be a factor.

Something tells me Bdog and Crockett are two of the guys who routinely called me "faggot" in high school.

That shit pretty much stopped the day I crammed one of them into his locker. Turns out bullies are just well camouflaged pussies with a state-of-the-art whisper network.

People who claim the thing to do is to ignore bullies regardless of circumstance don't get it because they weren't bullied in school. I'd put money on these lug-headed fucks having been on the other side of that equation.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.

I was bullied at times. And you know what, you're right, putting someone into a locker or throwing a punch at a bully is required in very rare instances. I've had to do it and it sometimes works. But I'd rather speak softly and carry a big stick then cry about name calling on national TV.

We're talking about a ONE random letter to a public TV host. That does not rise to the level of 'bully' and deserves ignorance. A response like her's weakens the case for reprisal to true bullying.

I was just gonna say the same thing. The "ignore them and they go away" method does not work in many circumstances. I was bullied all through elementary into middle school, until I punched a couple of them. That slowed down the BS quite a bit. While a violent response is NOT the method I'd encourage anyone to use -- hey, we're all "adults" here, right? -- I think it's important for people to stand up for themselves in some way and let jerks know what they are doing needs to stop.

Something tells me Mean Scenester has called black people "niggers", behind their backs of course.

Meanie, I never said ignore anything. I said the emailer was not a bully. Rude and assholish,as others have mentioned here. But not a bully.

The anchor brought the bully angle in because it's popular nowadays. That's bullshit. Just confronting the guy for being asshole is enough, no need to embellish it.

Heh, she probably didn't anticipate national attention but I think she knew the bully angle would garner her additional support.

Anyone see the story about the girl who was setup by the "mean girls" in her high school to be a homecoming queen candidate?

THAT is bullying. Her reaction to it was well worth a national story.

This one, not so much.

But we're a nation of sheep who will swallow any feel good story put in front of us. The fat girl got even! Bravo! Look for the movie soon!

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
