$2.50 for a Thursday "Holiday" newspaper?

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

$2.50 for a Thursday "Holiday" newspaper?

Postby Whirlz » Fri Nov 23, 2012 2:12 pm

I went to get gas and the WSJ at the local convenience store yesterday, and there sat a 3" thick paper full o ads - I put forth the usual dollar, and the guy says its 2.50 today for the "special" paper. I told him he must be mistaken - but no, the WI State Journal figured it could get that, for a "95 percent ads" paper.

Did anyone actually buy this (scam) paper? ( I heard that those that have delivery did not get an up-charge)

They did the same thing last year. I passed on buying the paper.

That's ass backwards.

They used to actually give the Thanksgiving paper away because they wanted to inflate their circ numbers on one of the biggest ad days of the year. The reason why it's so fat is because they have so many ads, which means it ought to be more profitable.

So why do you pay more?

If you subscribe to the Sunday paper, they give you Wednesdays (and "special" editions like yesterday) for free.

I assume that the WSJ, like other newspapers throughout the country, have a declining circulation base as the Internet has become the major news source for most people. I have a feeling they didn't sell many papers yesterday at two-fifty a crack.
