Yesterday was a bit of a rough day to be listening to the news, if one happens to have children:
* South Korean ferry sinks, with almost 300 people still missing, mostly high school students on a holiday trip. News media voyeuristically focuses on sobbing parents standing on shore, reading farewell texts from their children trapped aboard the foundering ship.
* Armed Boko Haram ("Western Education is Forbidden") extremists abduct over 100 girls at gunpoint from a school in Nigeria. The good news is that by last night all except for eight of the girls had escaped or been rescued. But it was a pretty horrible day for families in the region.
