2016 Summer Olympics at Camp Randall

Postby Henry Vilas » Mon Nov 13, 2006 4:38 pm

San Francisco dropped out of the running, leaving Los Angeles and Chicago as the U.S. nominee for hosting the '16 Summer Olympics.

One requirement is a stadium that seats at least 80 thou. Camp Randall is the nearest to Chi Town. Don't think the Windy City will try to float a bond to build another, especially after the recent expensive Soldier's Field renovations.

The decision by the USOC is in April and the final choice by the IOC in 2009.

So what will be see? Soccer? Track and Field?

The vast Henry Vilas estate (small bungalow on a partial lot) is within a mile of the stadium. I think I'll be out of town and rent it out for beaucoup bucks.

Just what we need. the Secret Service running the City for a year. (See Section 602 of the PATRIOT Act reauthorisation.)

Notre Dame Stadium holds 80795 and is about 90 miles from Chicago.

There goes my theory. OK, which city can host the most visitors, South Bend or Madison?

Daley, or his successor, most certainly will build another stadium.

If awarded to Chicago, Chicagoans and FIBs statewide would view any part of the Olympic games taking place in the land of cheese as an insult. Chicago is the city with big shoulders that works and breaks wind, where the pizza is stuffed and hot dogs are served sans ketchup, and Chicago is not going to relinquish any part of the worldwide spotlight to a bunch of cheese-munching pussies (or to a bunch of pussy-munching cheesies for that matter); and god help the politicians that allow this to happen because Jim Belushi will fly back to Chicago from his digs in LA, unless of course he's already in Chicago for a nationally televised sporting event, and kick their mother-fucking asses right downtown (AND PRINT IT!).

I don't recall where, but I know I read something about the Chicago bid involving some events taking place in Wisconsin. It was an actual media source, not just one of us typing out loud on TDPF.

Chicago was supposed to be a part of Wisconsin, you know. We should take great pains to regularly remind them of this.

I've read this too.

But it would be a huge leap from a few events taking place outside of Illinois, to having the main Olympic stadium (and therefore, the opening and closing ceremonies) outside of Illinois.

That won't happen.

Hey Hank, can I use your bathroom after the Buffalo game?

How much are you willing to pay? I'll probably charge more than a public urination ticket, so you should just take your chances and piss in some nearby bushes.
