Fishing noob: where to buy basic tackle?

Postby ArturoBandini » Fri Jul 17, 2009 4:28 pm

Longtime Madison residents,

Any recommendations on local fishing/sporting stores that would sell basic fishing tackle/lures/misc? I live near Vilas Zoo and would prefer not to start the car and drive to a big-box shopping center to pick up a few hooks and bobbers. Know any neighborhood shops that carry this stuff?

Honestly this is one of the only things that is good at WalMart. They have one of the most extensive selections and low prices. You can also get licensed there. Otherwise for a more local feel Farm and Fleet. I'm not sure you're going to find anything at all in your neighborhood. You are licensed right?

I've got a license, thanks for checking.

I know WalMart has low prices for this stuff, and tons of selection yada yada. I'd prefer to pay more to avoid entering those places. Less to do with the "evil corporate octopus" aspect than my personal aversions to imported plastic crap and beltline traffic.

Thanks for your suggestion. :)

Dorn Hardware on Midvale/Beltline.

They will set you UP. My guess is that Wolff Kubly will do similarly, but you might want to call first. And they probly don't have bait, which Dorn does.

Seconded. This Dorn is where it's at.

Good call! Totally within bicycle striking distance too. I'll check it out this weekend.

What is the best way to get pond weed out of my fishing pond?
I have a nice little fishing pond but the pond weed is so bad that I can't even fish in it. What is the best way to get the pond weed out?
